Post BMW Comfort Access Hands-Free Trunk?

How to know if my BMW F30 328i [2012] have a comfort access hands-free trunk? I am trying to put my leg under the bumper aligned to the plate number position but it doesn`t work.

Any help please?,

Note: that I have a finger print access to my car in doors

It takes practice. I put my foot under the bumper then quickly bend my knee and that
foot swinging action is what unlocks the trunk.

It's a swift "kick" under the number plate - in and out, don't keep your leg under the bumper. The trunk should open 1-2 seconds later.

The delay is always what gets me. I hesitate because I'm not sure it worked. If the car is locked the tail lights flashing are a hint at a successful activation because they will flash before the trunk pops open. Unlocked? I just have to be patient.

I've also noticed other things will trigger the release. The other day I was working in my garage and had an extension cord running under the back end of my car. Every time the cord flopped around, it would trigger the trunk release. I was constantly having to go back and close the dumb thing. I've had the hose do the same thing while washing the car. That gets exciting!

I laughed at what you said - I have the same problem on all my cars when washing them and always laugh when the doors or trunks open during the washing. My 340 trunk pops open for the same reasons you mentioned. We also have a van with auto sliding doors and when washing the bottom of the doors they constantly open. Luckily that is only when using a sponge. I also note that our pets can also open the trunk when they run near the trunk.

A quick way to resolve this is to keep the fob out of your pocket when washing the car. Comfort Access shouldn’t activate unless the fob is also nearby.

I did figure that one out after a few tries. I would back the car out for a wash and then go straight to washing it. I would basically forget the keys were in my pocket. Now it is put the keys away, wash the car and then get them to stick the dried car back in the garage. I still sometimes forget and pop, the trunk opens.

This is me exactly, except most of the time I'm just lazy and don't want to have to go back in the house and drop the keys and to fetch them again later to put the car away.

I guess it is better than running the risk of a wet trunk...

I've learned to aim my leg swing at the sensors...go directly under them. That seems to be most reliable so far.

make sure you're not too close to the trunk as this is a safety feature also. it might hit you when it opens. a little bit far out then put your feet right in the middle of the car and do a fast outside motion of your feet. in my case it is a hit and miss so I make sure I got my key with me. sometimes I just do it manually as it takes awhile.....

I too have to keep my keys in the garage away from the car to not incessantly trigger anything when I'm washing the car.

But also honestly, how many of you kick to open the trunk? I'm a single, relatively young guy so there are rarely any situations where it isn't easier to just tap the trunk release handle (which really is an electronic button) and it hydraulically pops open.

The only event I can currently think of is both my hands have bags of groceries/stuff and I didn't bring the cart with me and it is monsooning sideways. I'm sure those with young children will say otherwise.

Thank you Guys finally it works

What I did is that, I put the key with me in my pocket , and them stand in the middle of the trunk few cm away from the trunk, and move my leg under the bumper in and out, and suddenly it works.

I was super happy for that, since I thought my car doesn`t have this option and I need to install it separately.

Thank you everyone for your reply.

Lol! Yep, same here. Especially when washing the doors and the car locks or unlocks.

This is really the only scenario when I use it...regardless of weather When my hands are full of items or I'm carrying something large, it comes in really handy. For other random times I access the trunk, the button on the trunk lid works just fine.

I stopped trying to open my trunk with comfort access. I look like a moron at parking lots kicking my feet under my rear bumper.

Until I get it perfect every-time all the time, I will keep opening it up the old fashion way.

Well, this thread explains a lot...

I've never been able to get it to work with my foot, but it never has a problem going off when I'm washing the car or messing with the hitch! But, I've spent plenty of time waving my foot around and dancing like an idiot in the parking lot trying to get it to work.

Never tried the swift kick method, so I'll give that a shot...

It's a very annoying pain in the a** feature that you really can do without. Mine will never operate if I try to use it but will often open uncommanded while I stand beside the car refueling or standing still 3 metres behind the car.
