Where to get Inspection and Emissions test completed?
Do I need to go to my indy for Inspection and Emissions test? They are more expensive, ~$90 total. I am happy to pay more if there is something special they are doing or if the price is warranted.
For context, I could go to meineke or pep boys and get it done for $35. Thanks |

State inspection should be fixed price, in NY it's $10 and most shops do it for $15 around here. Unless your Indy is doing a like a deeper pre-purchase type inspection, you are just throwing your money away by paying that much for a state inspection.

I have a good relationship at BMW of Reading, and they gave me the state inspection for $0. Still have to pay for the emission test.
I like going to the dealer because my car us under warranty. That way, anything they find in an inspection is covered other than normal wear and tear. |

Prices in NH are also not fixed. One shop could charge $20 for Inspection&Emissions while the shop next door charges $50.

I'm also in PA (Pittsburgh) and just last week I took my car to a local BMW dealer for inspection/emissions, and the cost was around $75. I only went there because my CPO warranty expires soon so if they found anything wrong it could be fixed, but they didn't find anything. With other cars I've gone to various local indy shops; they don't have to be BMW or German specific, but I don't trust chain places like Pep Boys to touch my car.

I’m also in PA and am in favor of having the state inspection done at the dealer. If your vehicle is still under warranty, it will pay for itself. Just ask them for a new set of wipers. They should replace them for free. They also top off all the fluids with the correct type and uncover any issues. On my recent inspection they found a bubble in one of the tires and replaced it under the tire extended warranty I had bought. I was also entitled to a loaner but declined it this time.
