Rear main seal leak? (HELP)
My f30 335i Xdrive has been leaking onto my driveway, and I looked under to see oil on the rear where the engine meets the transmission.
No VCG or OHG gaskets leaks, no leaks on the downpipe. I attached the images of the leak, any insight on this and rough repair costs are greatly appreciated. Car is a 2014 with 80,000KMS |

Hard to see from the pictures If it isn't the oil pan gasket leaking.
You are looking at removing the exhaust, the driveshafts, the transmission drop to change the rear seal. This is a low mileage to have a rear seal leaking.

This would be the time I would prefer a valve cover leak, I will remove the skid pan this weekend to have a better look. But I agree would be odd to have a rear main fail this early, my BMW with the N52 has over 180,000KMs with no oil pan leaks or rear main.

I think it's rare for the rear main seal to leak this early. I had a very slow oil pan gasket leak around 75k miles. I had it covered under my BMW extended warranty.

My oil pan gasket was already leaking at 45k miles on my 2015 335i, and this is a Cali car that is never exposed to extreme temps, etc. Got it replaced under CPO warranty just before it expired. Labor cost is quite high for that repair since they need to lower the subframe. Hard to tell if that's what yours is from the pics, you probably need to clean all the oil off and see where it reappears first.
