Hey all,

Just bought new 20" VFF-103 wheels in mystic black from a fellow forum member.

Unfortunately, I am rubbing in my 2012 bmw f30 335i with newly installed h&r springs (has about 750 miles on it).
The rubbing occurs mostly in the front scraping the rubber part of the strut and i believe part of my fender. the backs are EXTREMELY close to rubbing on the wheel well but they don't (have not tested with more than 2 people in the car).

the wheels are
20x8.5 offset + 30 with ventus v12 245/35/20
20x10 offset + 45 with ventus v12 285/30/20


I know there are multiple people on this forum with lowered f30s and these same wheels! The only difference is the tire size. Typically, i see people with 245/30/20 and 275/30/20. Would this make that big of a difference?

yes, those tire sizes make a difference. 245/35/20(26.8") is 1" greater diameter(=0.5" sidewall larger) than 245/30/20(25.8"). the tire shoulders are 0.5" closer to the spring perch and at full lock, the fenderwell liners.

on the rear 275/30/20 is just 0.2" diameter smaller(=0.1" smaller sidewall) and 10mm less width so the 275 tire shoulder is tucked 5mm further in than a 285.

the small differences are the difference between rubbing and not

thanks for clarifying! I figured this was the case, but I wanted to be 100% sure before i bought new tires.

Can i just buy new front tires since the backs are not rubbing? or would the back tire size effect the front

if the backs are not rubbing i would just change the fronts. the new sidewall is 0.5" less so the front of the car will be 0.5" lower than the rear and you may have to adjust the coilover height since the gap will increase 0.5", but a little bit of forward rake looks good anyhow.

height is fixed because they are h&r sport springs. i do think I would enjoy some forward rake as well haha. thanks for the input!

I know which wheels are those since I was eying them lol, didn't jump on that because tires was way too big and was being sold with tires, but guy was adamant they didn't rub.. sure on stock height it will not. I'm on HR super sports, if I had coilovers I would of gotten them.

If the tires still have some life in them, you can probably just look into getting a decent set of used coilvers and adjust the height. Might be a better investment.

They were somewhat close to me so I had to get them! I looked through a bunch of forum posts and a lot of people have similar if not the same tires so I thought it might work, but I guess they had a different suspension set up. I thought the difference in tire size was negligible (these are my first set of wheels) but apparently not.

I am looking to just buy some used front tires and hopefully I can keep the rears as they are for now. If anyone is looking for two front tires let me know

another option for the front is 235/35/20(26.5"dia.) instead of 245/30/20(25.8"). the 235/35 sidewall height is 0.3" shorter than your original 245/35 size, enough to mitigate rubbing the fenderwell liner at full lock, and the mild stretch(235 on 8.5") would keep the tire shoulder away from the spring perch. lastly the forward rake would not be as prounounced.

when the rears wear out change to 275/30/20(26.5") same height as 235/35/20 for even sidewall height.

very aggressive setup, i would expect something like this on a m3

not surprised you are rubbing.

20's imo are way too big for f30, maybe f32

i run 255 on the fronts but im at 19in with no rubbing

They look awesome though. I eyeballed them too, probably take them off your hands if you can't get them to work

They are absolutely amazing. I was super disappointed when I couldn't drive away with them!

Are you actually interested in purchasing? I was debating on going to 19"

I am, but I'm trying not to have a storm trooper look because its so common, yet I keep looking at black wheels

The wheels are fine. The tires are wrong.

i'm sure they did not rub on his car. it was at stock height! Mine are lowered on h&r sport springs.
