Runflats can be fixed easily - a little known fact.

the thing that really bothers me about run flats is the irony behind it.....run flats are designed to keep you safe and keep you driving even if you have a flat........but they're SOOO much more fragile and need fixing/replacing more frequently.

ive changed more tires on my BMW than i have on all my cars combined ever

I don't think so. Look at it this way: if you drove on a regular tire with no air in it for 50 miles would you expect to be able to plug the leak and use it? Of course not, because you'd have shredded it in less than a mile, and then driven on a bare rim, for a lot less than another 49 miles.
With a regular tire as soon as you lost air you'd stop, and if you had a can of fix a flat and a pump you'd use them. You should do the same with RFTs. If the damage was so severe that didn't work then with a regular tire you'd be waiting for a flat bed to arrive. At least with an RFT you can probably get home or to the nearest tire store.

Run flats issue

We just picked up a 2015 CPO F34 with practically brand new Continental run flats. I don't know about anyone else, but as soon as they wear out, the car is getting conventional Goodyear tires. I bought a refurbished 17" wheel from California, and put on a new Goodyear Assurance Max-Life tire. 225 55 17.
We keep it in the trunk on longer trips, not everyday use locally. I'm not driving out West or hundreds of miles a day with run flats. No way you''re going to find a tire shop within 50 miles on a weekend, holiday or any other day that will have a replacement available. Sure the spare takes up space in the trunk, but its a big trunk. Rather give up some cargo space than get stuck in the middle of nowhere without a tire. The whole concept of runflats is foolish and I'm disappointed in BMW. Otherwise, we love the car.

You might not like it but BMW is ahead of the curve here. RFT is not only not going away, it will eventually become the standard. The handwriting on the wall is quite clear that fossil fuel is on the way out, electric is on the way in, and the space previously assigned to spare tires will be occupied by batteries.

Eventually, fossil fuels will go out the way of the dinosaurs. But now in my lifetime, which is limited. And not for my current cars. So in the meantime until that day comes, I stand by my post.

yes, i think it's 2040 when UK stop selling alternative fuel vehicles. I'll be in my 60s so probably in a wheelchair and can't drive anyway, it won't bother me.

Seriously? What a skewed view of being in one's 60s! Almost 65 here and driving a manual trans 2 series much of the time. And, far from alone!

I'm 68 and a 640GT is on my radar, though I expect when I'm ready to pull the trigger in five years or so it will more likely be a 630e.
