My Euro Delivery Experience
Flew into Munich and took the train to BMW Welt. Getting there is super easy...instead of taking an 85 Euro Uber, you simply take the escalator down 1 level, buy the most direct train ticket (11.20 euros but nobody checked it), take the escalator down another level and get on the train. Just take the S1 or S8 (urban train)--there's only 1 direction from the airport so no worries which train you get on. At Marienplatz you have to change and take the U3 (underground) to Olympiazentrum. About 45 minutes. The walk in the opposite direction of the train about a block and walk into the modern building on the same side of the street.
Once inside, go to information desk and they'll take your bags and bring you up the the VIP floor for lunch and refreshments. A service rep will bring you down to your car after a personalized interactive display of the features, etc. It was fun to see my new car spinning on the platform like I'd seen others posted here. After the Rep shows you the car and helps set up your NAV, etc., you get do a "victory lap" and drive out. I parked in VIP parking and then got my free pass to the museum. Afterwards, met some friends at the Chinese Tower in the English Garden (highly recommended...beautiful and festive beer garden in the woods). I drove up to Stuttgart to visit the Mercedes and Porsche museums, then I met a friend in Darmstadt and then we drove up to Cologne for a couple days. Dropped off my car outside of Frankfurt, then walked to the street car to the main train station (about 30 minutes) before returning home. It was a great trip and highly recommended to those who want the full experience. Notes: Gas is sold by the liter so it works out to almost $6/gallon! I used the E95 as recommended in the manual. While much of the autobahn is no speed limit, often the speed limit drops significantly near cities and intersecting highways. Parking at hotels is expensive too...20-30 euros a night. The Porsche museum is incredible and the dealership across the street is pretty cool too! Here's my 2018 440i in Tanzanite Blue... |

Beautiful car. Love Tanzanite.
Just one thing for your next ED . . . BMW provides a free airport to hotel or Welt transfer. They use Sixt rent-a-car who will usual pick you up in a nice 7er! You've got to email Sixt and set it up beforehand. All the info should have been provided in the ED materials provided by your dealer.

Smiller, I'm curious about one other thing since it has yet to be confirmed. Was your 440 produced in July or after? If so, is the large iDrive screen a touch screen?

My iDrive controller had touch features that allowed me move around and make things bigger or small by pinching the touch pad or swiping left or right but I never even thought to touch the screen. I'll let you know in a couple of weeks when I get my car...I seem to recall a video showing that Apple Car Play uses the BMW screen or the touch pad but since it wouldn't work while I was in Germany, they told me to ask my dealer for a demo when it was delivered. |

Smiller155,
Beautiful car. Congrats! gotta love ED experience. nothing beats driving your own car the way it supposed to be driven, especially on the autobahn. Got a question. I'm in the process ordering a 440GC. want to know if your instrument cluster is all digital? 2 weeks ago when I built in on BMWUSA.com it was still an option but now it's gone. I sure don't want to miss that. just not sure if that's standard now. |

I prefer this anyway. I don't like the look of all digital displays, but analog will be gone shortly, so glad I have analog while it's still around. The digital komib is just enough to add useful info, but not busy up the dash with too much digital stuff.

Bummer dude. That sux. I was on the Morning Caroline with you and BMW Genius said I wouldn't get my car car until the 21st but I got it on the 19th. I know their estimate can be wrong so I'm hoping you get it sooner. Good luck!

I enjoyed viewing your ED trip post from 2012. This is what I had planned to do but my picture-taking fizzled out after a few days. I even brought a dash cam but never got around to hooking it up. Next time I do this, I am going to be more disciplined.
