white tiguan side swipped my silver f32, is the door salvageable? repair costs?

Car next to me was pulling out of the space right next to me and cut the wheel way too early and side swipped the drivers side door. I was pretty pissed but tried to keep my cool, does anyone think this could be repaired without buying a whole new door?

We agreed to not go through insurance (at the moment although I think I am going to anyways) so i'm curious as to what people think this might cost. Going to take it to the body shop close to me for an estimate next week.

NOTE: not the best quality pics from my phone will take more detailed ones and upload later

That's minor damage. A good PDR man will take care of that. If he can't get it perfect the amount of body filler required would be minimal.

Absolutely right 100% I know for a fact the dent guy we use would breeze that and would be invisible.
On jobs like that on or near swage lines he heats the metal up first to make it malleable before easing it back into shape.
Did a 5 series rear quarter panel last week for us that I never would have thought he could do, was 500% worse than that and it was spot on after about 4 hours of work.

Besides the PDR to fix the dent, if there are any scuff in the paint (can't really tell from the picture) a good detailer should be able to buff out the scuffing as long as it hasn't gone through the clear coat.

will take a more detailed picture today as mentioned above, they quoted me $2500 , but my guess is there's more damage done that cant be seen by these crappy phone pics.

Seems steep. Get a second estimate.

$2500!? Is there a work break-out of what they think needs to be done?

I've had rear-end impact damage on a car done which wasn't much more than that. Required an entire re-paint of the back 1/4 of the car along with several parts replaced. This is a simple dent pull.

Here is the estimate, not sure why all the other stuff such as the rear bumper rear lamps, quarter panel etc. are included but they are (When it comes to body work I know diddly squat about anything lol).

There's an awful lot of stuff on there that's nowhere near the repair.

Yeah, that's nuts.

Looks like they want to disassemble the entire left side of the car from the door clear to the taillight and repaint the whole thing! Removal of the rear fender liner is a hint there.

What is the "hinge pillar" Is that the A pillar? I'm not sure why you'd remove those pieces, or even the B pillar trim for that matter for something like that dent.

I can see painting the entire door, as that can be easier than trying to blend a spot. But anything and everything not in the 'Door' column is nuts.

At the very worst from the picture it is strip off door inner trim panel, remove vapour barrier to gain some access to the dent and some of it will be worked from the window aperture top of door.
We get stuff like this done at least 3 times a month in our shop, my guy is great as we use him a lot so his price to me is extremely good.
If the car is in for a service and mot with a few repairs etc i sometimes get this done for them free of charge as a good will gesture to my long standing customers.
I love the response and expression on their faces when they see the dent gone and no bill for doing it lol.

Looks like bull dust from your dealer, look elsewhere.

Can NOT see why ANY paint would require doing from those pictures, maybe a light 3000 grit flatting with 3M Trizact and buff /polish the area but no paint.

They want to clear coat the aperture since they're blending into the quarter panel. That is what the 'hinge pillar' line is referencing The repair area at that door will extend out close enough to the fender and quarter panel to warrant blend operations. All of the detrim operations that I see are appropriate. You can't blend the quarter panel without removing anything that is coming into contact with that panel unless you want tape lines. Ditto for the fender.

OP, where are you that the body labor rate is $65.00 per unit hour? That's the only thing about this estimate that stands out to me. You're correct, it's hard to tell exactly what's going on from cell phone pictures but that might be a bit beyond PDR if you want it to be 100% back to how it was. That crease is right on a complex contour in the door.

Good luck.

Slightly better pictures while inside my garage (wife's camera phone but still not the best quality) from these pictures I can't even really see the damage to well, the specs on the side are salt which I washed off and yes I put the side fender m badges on which come standard on the euro market msport package f30's.

The next thing I was going to do was msport body conversion, and then this happened but honestly I think I can live with it...for now.

The shop I got a quote from is located in Norwalk, Connecticut. They do great work and I suppose they just want to do a very thorough job bit it seemed a little expensive to me, is $65/hr. a lot for body work? I was going to take my msport bumpers there to get painted and installed but perhaps i'll just have them paint the bumpers and then I'll assemble it myself and save some coin.

$65 an hour is fine, but doing three times what's required for the repair isn't.
