Any recommendations for the ISTA+ scan tool?
I'm looking at this one: https://www.ecstuning.com/b-schwaben...SABEgLpLPD_BwE

Yeah I asked that exact question once or twice and didn't get any solid answers... I need to try my current scan tool and double check if it can read trans temp. Hopefully someone replies with a solid scan tool suggestion as I just ordered the filter/fluid kit.

Sorry if this is a dumb question...but isn't ISTA a downloadable software that can be used via laptop and enet?

It could be. I've never heard of it before. When I googled it I just found tons of random things so I came back to this thread

I believe you are correct that it's a software and can be used how you described. I could be wrong but that's what I thought...

https://www.bimmerfest.com/forums/sh...d.php?t=936877 So really, no scan tool is necessary. Just this software, a laptop, and a enet to obd2 (which most of us already have if we have BM3)

BimmerLink is also capable of reading trans temps. Available on iOS.

Just to update everyone about the scan tool, for those with JB4 and the Bluetooth kit: trans temp is an option in the gauges. It seems to be working accurately for me, so that's what I'll use. Easy enough.

I've emailed one of my local dealers in Langley BC, Canada and got a $1200 (950usd) quote for transmission service. I originally thought that's excessive but looking around this thread it seems about average for the dealers to charge. Mind you, I didn't ask what they consider the service entails lol.
My car is at 72000 km and i see that most intervals are listed in miles so I think I got some time left before I have it done 👀 Would anyone have a rough idea what transfer case fluid (diffs) change would be? Cost wise Oh and anyone successful done the service and things went smooth ? |

I must check if I can find the receipt of the job (later today). I have excel sheet where I'm keeping book of what is done for the car but that is listing only total cost of the jobs. But as you can think the brake job is cheap compared to transmission.

I found the receipt. As I thought the brakes didn't cost much. New brake fluid plus labor was 90€ total. Transmission oil was 298€, oil pan 241€ and labor 121€ which totals to 660€. All the prices includes VAT which is 24% in Finland.

Thanks for taking your time to dig out that record 💪🏻 Now I know what I can expect. I'm at 70k km so I got a bit before I need to drop a grand on it. |

I'm waiting to get a quote for the diff/trans drain/refill from a local BMW shop. Will post the labor price on Monday/Tuesday.

Good to know that DIY is possible. Any difference between manual (6 speed) transmission and automatic transmission vehicles? Will using the same BMW OEM parts work when changing out to new transmission fluid?
