What does rolling MSDs mean?

I read on the X5 forums that BMW allows rolling MSDs into a new lease. What does this mean exactly? They stopped offering MSDs this year on new leases so is this just a credit towards a new lease, or do they allow you to get a MF discount of 0.00007 for each MSD by rolling it?

Thanks

Typically you just carry over that balance into the next lease and get the lower payment. This was cancelled this past April.

That's what I thought. Its the same as them returning you the cash and putting it as a down payment, so its not really anything special that BMW is doing.

Thanks for confirming.

It's not a down payment. You get it back

Selected east market markets still have MSDs, but it has to be MSDs from existing leases rolling into MSDs of new leases, and per MF reduction is dropped from 0.00007 to 0.00005.

So this is a new program? Good to know.

MSD program was cancelled nationwide back in the spring. However, a few east coast markets are in a trial run where people w/ MSD's on their current lease are being alowed to carry them into a new lease. As was mentioned though, the reduction factor is lower.

I've just leased a 2018 340 xDrive and rolled my $3,500 in MSDs into the new lease.
If I am not mistaken in 2014 these $3.5K saved me roughly $45 per month.
This time MF went down to 0.00117 from 0.00152 and saved me only $31 per month. Still it is about 10.5% ROI and still it makes sense.

I was told that NYS does not allow MSDs though.
