You can flash an EVO unit that only has 2GB of memory, to a newer version that has ID6_Lite, but the problem is that you will run into it randomly rebooting.

The reboots tend to happen more when you're on much longer drives and using route guidance. I've had one reboot twice on a 75 mile trip but if your drives are relative short, you might only see it happen once a week or less.

Interesting... Is there any way to verify which hardware version I have without removing trims?

Not that I know of. You only need to remove the bottom trim piece. In the video I linked to, you can see the label with the hardware version, as soon as he takes off the lower trim piece.

I'm sorry guys I'm a bit confused so forgive my ignorance... I have a 2014 335i xDrive which I believe is running iDrive 4. I recently had the car at my dealer where they were trying to troubleshoot some transmission software weirdness. As part of their troubleshooting, they updated my cars software to the latest version (not sure of specific number but this was a few months ago). After the update I had new features in my dash like "Steering wheel heat on/off" and a few others. The software update made my iDrive snappier. After the update all of my coding was wiped out so I'm sure they updated it.
Now my question is. If I have iDrive 4, can I got to iDrive 6_lite IF I have 4GB HU? I thought ID4 to ID6_lite required a hardware swap? |

Yes, ID4 to ID6 always requires a HW swap. You can try flashing your HU, but it will be unstable and reset/reboot often.

But from what I'm reading doing this will result in issues in iDrive (rebooting, crashes etc.) correct?

NBT EVO (or NBT2) came out in 2015. It originally ran the same ID4 interface as the original NBT. Later versions of EVO ran ID5, and then ID6. If you have an EVO with ID5, you can simply code a change to get ID6_light. If you have an EVO with ID4, you can upgrade the firmware and then run either ID5 or ID6_light. If you have a later ID4 version of EVO, and you have 4GB of ram, you will not run into any issues, if you have an early version of EVO with ID4, with only 2GB of memory, you will run into random reboots. There is no way to update an original NBT with NBT2 firmware.

I am in a process to buy a F31 from 04/2016. It has ID4 and the Headunit Serial is starting with HB B214 XXX. So my question is has the headunit 4gb of ram? If yes, could it be upgraded to ID5/6 without a retrofit and any reboots which is happening alot with headunits that has 2gb of ram. Any idea of this will work? |

The below link has a list of hardware versions, it shows B214 as "Asia OL ID5". Are you importing the car from Asia? https://cartechnology.co.uk/printthr...d=59327&page=2

Is something missing for the first code? After exbox 3001, I think there should be another entry. |
