Big data is an interesting field. Still developing so a lot of what you hear is bullshit, but the underlying concept (and its promise is remarkable). The ability to extract meaning from a torrent of both structured and unstructured data and apply it to real-world problems is pretty amazing. Yeah, my main interest is the unlimited storage through Google's cloud servers, it's essentially a one-stop-shop for consolidation and analysis, streamlining the infrastructure while making a cost effective engineered solution, in-house.


It's almost like they thrive on dumbing down the process while retaining the nervous system. Half of the time, you don't even really know what's happening, and you don't need to.

I find this terrifying... the extent to which we societally volunteer to sacrifice privacy, liberty, control on the altar of convenience is really frightening. (Talking about this on the macro scale, not really what you are talking about, but this screams Big Brother to me. You should read Anthem. Yes, it is by Ayn Rand, but it is still a fascinating read. And it is short.)

Well, I was mainly referring to the ingestion process and querying, without needing to granularly build an entire language LOL.

But you always have good literature recommendations, I will take a look into an excerpt.

A lot of it is still throwing around the "big data" buzzword. But it's here to stay. We've got way too much data without the detailed analysis to fully utilize it. Fortune 100 companies are investing real millions into big data as we speak.

The possibilities combined with a large skeletal structure of remote servers and automation are endless. It's frying my brain but I can't stop digesting info.
