ok. sorry if my problems seem so first world in the context of whats going on in the world.
I would like to change my car soon and cannot tolerate the new bmws and their grilles and backsides (as matt at carrow puts it in his x5 review - snout of a pig and butt of a hippo) though i have had 7 different bmws for 10 years and total over 300000 miles now i think im going to jump ship as cannot bear to look at their hideous designs now. Please don't shoot me but i find audis design language more tolerable externally though interior wise love bmws but i know nothing about them as have been brand loyal to bmw till now. Whats the audi equivalent of bimmerpost? Would like to browse their forums and do some 'research'. Even if I don't end up buying anything ar least I will get an 'education' |

Mwahah the new range are ugly, especially the rears for me, but wait till you test drive an S4/5, steering - terrible/lifeless, gearbox is decidedly clunky (appreciate it's a ZF8) seats uncomfortable, eats petrol compared to my 340i mppsk. Would honestly upgrade to the M340i instead of an S5.

My S4 petrol avant (2017) has great steering ! The gearbox is not clunky at all, put it into sport and it’s crisp, sharp... I’m averaging 34 mpg across all conditions of short / long journeys .. and compared to my old 3 (F31) series and X3 (F25) the cabin is a class above. Oh, and the seats are immense (with the massage functions), the difficulty being there is so much adjustment , takes ages to find the sweet spot, but after a solid 5hr drive from Scotland south, you step out feeling just fine . Don’t get me wrong, my 3 series was immense, but the S4 is up a notch. |

i already have a f15 x5. i really love it but mrs mostly drives it. Im thinking of switching out from my 335.
i just can't buy the G05 new X5 its really not to my taste with its grille and expanded posterior. I don't know but have tried but cannot love its looks. Equally don't want to buy another f15 x5 as it would mean 2 of the same car on the driveway(though i absolutely love its comfortandrelative sportiness). Im thinking of getting a q7. Not the new model as it equally or more ugly but the previous version in a great spec at a great price. Its boring looking but not ugly. I don't need 7 seats as my x5 already has 7 but its for comfort as roads are getting more brittle by the hour. |

If you serious about wanting comfort, try something JLR. I imagine a FFRR is immense when it comes to comfort (based on driving D5 and RRS extensively).

in fact the x3 in the m40 guise was the other car i considered. Bit wary as the internal potholed crumbly roads in newton mearns are a headache. If the roads were good i wouldn't be thinking of changing. |

Touareg with 4ws is probably the bargain air-suspended SUV out there, way more kit than a D5/X5 at a similar price point. I've not driven one, but think they look the bargain of the sector.

You could go for a 5 series, they havent messed that up with the LCi yet and it is still good looking, especially as a Touring (just for mcoops ) - get a nice 540i with a decent spec and 19s and you will have great comfort and performance...

Tested a variety including Model X, Cayenne (with optional air suspension), 2xRRS, G03 X3 (no air!), G05 X5 and Discovery 5. Standard air on all of the ones not specifically called out. Then the X7 for 24 hrs when the Discovery was rejected (minor fault, but repeated so gave the chance to reject). Ended up ordering another Discovery which will eventually emerge into a post-COVID world, assuming that I make it. The Range Rover Sports, one diesel, one hybrid, both with the adaptive Dynamic suspension, were definitely the handling stand-outs whilst retaining the sublime ride. I'd have one in a heart-beat out of that list, except I need the extra space of the Discovery (Plus it's a more avuncular big bear and awesome value in higher specs with lots of the Range Rover bits at a cheaper list). I have the adapative dynamics on my Discovery and it makes a big difference, but it doesn't have the extra anti-roll components that the RRS has - its adaptive damping only in the Disco, which helps massively in body control versus the standard suspension.
