Upgrade from 20-inch Bridgestone Turanza 005 RFT
Hi all,
I recently purchased a new to me 2018 440i GC MPE. It has the 20-inch 405M wheels. The tire are Bridgestone Turanza 005 RFTs. 225/35R20 and 255/30R20. I don't believe these are the OEM tires as the car has about 40,000km on it. As this setup is my first experience on this car, can somebody comment if handling and comfort will be noticeably improved if i upgrade to non-RFT's? The consensus seem to be the Michelin Pilot Sport 4 A/S. I've read they are a huge upgrade to the OEM RFT's that came with the original car. However since my Bridgestone Turanza's are not the OEM tyres, I am not sure if the benefits will still be as pronounced? As well, I assume i shouldn't stick with 20 inch rims if I go for Non-RFT's? Perhaps 18 or 19"? Would love to hear from folks that made a similar switch. |

20 inch rims are like 6 inch heels. They look nice, but aren't at all practical. The ride is harder, the handling is worse, and the potential for pothole damage is much higher than with smaller rims and higher sidewalls. As for the tires, another consideration in your region is whether to go with all seasons, summer or separate summer/winter. That may not be a concern if you never venture up the road to Whistler, but if you do the winter sports thing it's a consideration.
