340i suspension upgrades

Be good to know what you recommend for improving the handling on one of these

On serious note start with ACS springs then perhaps dumpers. Speak to @Lorcan , he will get you sorted. Apparently new kit available.

It kind of depends what you mean by ‘improve’.

Stiffer shocks and/or springs will certainly improve handling and looks, but generally with some impact on comfort. My personal favourite suspension upgrade has always been a set of stiffer anti-roll bars. I’ve got a set of H&R’s on my E46 330D, with otherwise standard M-Sport suspension.

This allows the car to corner with less body roll, and generally makes it feel sharper and more balanced as you turn into corners. It does this without adding any extra stiffness overall, and still rides like standard.

Even a set of new standard shocks can improve things if the cars done some miles.

Ian.

Been thinking about this for a while myself too. Had a look at the KW DDC as I have adaptive damping but IMO it lowers it a bit too much 25mm front 30mm rear minimum) and I got so fed up of the MP splitter scraping on my previous F30 that I don’t want to go too low. Considering the ACS sport kit (-15mm) as tbh losing the adaptive isn’t really the end of the world for me as I want a more controlled daily driver and occasional track use rather then the adaptive on/off availability.

If you don’t want to go too low then consider the KW Street Comfort or Bilstein B16 PSS9 Komfort coilovers.

Thanks Teaston. Is it Nisfan that has the B16 Komfort fitted? Is the Komfort purely a ride height difference or is it more comfortable ie softer than the other B16 variations? Very tempted with the ACS sport set up.

NISFAN had it on his 330d. Not sure if it’s softer, but being an adjustable coilover kit you shouldn’t have any problem getting the comfort level you want.

Does anyone have any experience with the ACS Sport suspension?

Hello...

The Komfort version uses the exact same dampers but has longer and slightly softer springs. Ride height on Komfort is from stock height to perhaps -20mm on M sport cars.
Standard B16 PSS is probably -10 to -40mm over M sport.

I can vouch for both sets, really pleased with them. They are not a hard core track system.

340 will be same as any other F30 in that swapping run flats for decent non run flats, and the springs and dampers for something higher quality will transform how it travels down a typical British back road.

It might be marginally firmer, yet actually be more comfortable.

Thanks Nisfan. So you had both standard PSS and PSS9 Komfort? How do they both compare? I am only looking for a very small drop in ride height due to fear of MP splitter scraping which used to do my head in (and made me feel like I was 17 again when I see a speed bump!). So anything 10-15mm would be perfect, 20mm max.

I've got a 240i now, and went for the Komfort version again (same part number as 3 series version). However, the 2 series has a lower ride height setup as standard, which meant the Komfort version didn't lower the 240 anymore than stock. So Bilstein sent me the normal B16 springs to correct that issue. So in a way I've had both on the same car back to back. The Komfort have a very slightly softer ride, and IMO, perfect for daily road use. From what you have said, I'd definitely go with the Komfort set.

If you go into the main 3 series forum, there is a sticky in the suspension section with most of the suspension options in it. I posted some pics of my 3 series in there. I also had a longer thread in this forum , something like ' suspension.....time to get serious' pics in there too.
