As I've said, not really following all the detail. Maybe I'm naive, but I thought the BoE was supposed to be keeping inflation to around 2%. That figure has definitely been banded about. But even BoE predict around 5%, from what I pick up in news items and from economists.

Surely interest rates are a key tool for inflation control. I appreciate they seem to have moved stance very recently, from supporting the stimulus direction of government, but surely that is in conflict with even the Budget today.

To be honest I get a bit confused with a limited understanding of monetary policies. What I do know, even BoE predictions are often wrong and the financial system can crash around them. Does make me wonder who advises whom.

It's all above my pay level.
Just to answer the crash point and who checks that banks homework. This is where further regulatory bodies have been created post the financial crash.

We already had the SRA which was spun out of the Bank a few years before the crash. That's got greater powers now as the PRA - prudential regulatory authority. Then we also now have the FCA, Financial Conduct Authority, looking at retail banking conduct.

These bodies have some serious power and detailed oversight and control over what our banks are doing and can do. Plenty of other bodies will be analysing BoE outcomes.

So we have political pressures and targets, BoE technical command and control of macro economic tools and regulatory bodies looking after the consumers. Beyond that we have the likes of MIFiD regulations which fundamentally changed investment banking operations and governance.

Sorry, long answer, but it's why I got a bit curious over the BoE being labelled as was happening.

Why've you gone off topic in a banking thread?

Thanks for explaining.

My personal conclusion, it's all pretty fragile... cost of new cars a small 'blip', compared to the bigger issues ahead.

Back on topic… while the new rs3 is the “best” yet isnt the engine fundamentally the same 5cl engine that was first offered in the TTRS back in 2009… sure its now got 70odd bhp more but seems a little long in the tooth to be cutting edge and demanding a premium.. when cars like the A45 have moved the bar up?

I think many would argue that the 5 cylinder is one of the best engines Audi make and would always be a better option for character and noise than any 4 pot....

And doesnt the extra 70 bhp show they have moved the bar up?

I'd agree, that 5 pot is regarded as one of the great engines around, with a unique character and sound. That engine has never been the issue in cars it's been in. Extra power, whilst still passing the emissions regulations we have now shows plenty of development.
I can't imagine anyone will be looking to design new engines from scratch now, and certainly not 5 cylinder one.

If anyone is in the forces or ex-forces, here is a brilliant deal on a new top spec Vorsprung.....

£52500

https://www.forcescarsdirect.com/new...s-tronic_98729

Downside is you'll probably have to wait 6 - 12 months for it to arrive.
