New BMW Owner - First - Coding / What to expect

Hey guys,

Just picked up a 320D Msport Xdrive (15 plate)

Never had a BMW before, Some clown wrote my A4 off and i opt for a change.

Previously i used an OBD Reader / App for iphone to recode the basic things on the A4, Surely there are others than Carly that cost 60 quid to do.

Can anyone help me out on this? I seen from a few posts about the cable and software, willing to try this if anyone has a link to a cable to order thats cheap.

App, willing to pay for this if they do the job, just not 60 quid.

Few questions,

Satnav Maps (Can you update them)?
IDrive software, worth updating?
Anything to watch out for?

Pick it up hopefully tomorrow / Friday.

Thanks Guys, looking forward to being part of the community.

Check out Bimmercode. The app is cheaper than Carly, but not quite as many features (no fault code reading, no new battery registration, and possible a couple others), but for basic coding, it works well. Also, you can check to see if it's compatible with the OBD dongle you already have, whereas, I believe Carly uses a proprietary one.

My choice was the following combo, same developer. Cheaper than Carly and just as capable.

///BimmerCode
FDL and VO coding

///BimmerLink
Error code reading/clearing
Sensor values
Exhaust flap control
ASD control
DPF regeneration
Batter registration

In addition to those apps, I use a Vgate WiFi OBD adapter and my iPhone.

Works flawlessly.

Went with bimmercode, took off disclaimers, changed chime, added text message/email viewing. Was it worth the 30bucks app? Ehh. Not really.

BimmerCode now offers ASD control as well, but if you want the other things that sspade listed, you will need BimmerLink.

Love both BimmerLink and BimmerCode. Easy to use with the Bluetooth dongle.
