They are darker than OEM lights, which is one of the reasons I wanted them.

Agreed, I'm opting to go to with red vs smoke, despite my car being black....the smoked red provides a better contrast imo

Ya, I think it looks darker specially when compared to the pre-LCI taillights cause the pre-LCI taillights have chrome behind the lens to reflect the light from the halogen bulb. So it brightens up the red colour a bit.

Was hard for me to notice since I am red on red.

Did you black out your rear and front reflectors? That would go well with blacked out taillights.
