Help me with options to get my 428i Track ready
Hi fellow enthusiasts!
Last weekend I went to Sebring International Raceway for the first time in my stock 428i M Sport. My overall fun experience was somewhat checked by some frustrations I experienced on the track. I felt my brakes were inadequate, and my tires squealed a lot in the corners. I also had a hard time accelerating out of corners, maybe traction control was kicking in? I was racing in regular Sport mode using automatic shifting since this was the first time on the track i wanted to focus on the road and don't be concerned with rpm's and optimal shifting. Here's a video I made from one lap (you can hear tires squealing in some corners). Here are my questions to you: 1. What mode should I be in when on the track? 2. What tire pressure is optimal (I have Cinturado P7 run flats) - my display was showing 34PSI front (28 cold) 40 PSI rear (34 cold) during the race. 3. What type of upgrades should I be looking for? Brake Pads? Brake fluid? Tires? Tuning software is a given. If you could provide Make/Model specifics I would much appreciate it. Looking at best bang for the buck type of upgrades. Thanks! Tom |

Regarding tires, if you are on the oem staggered wheels, consider increasing the front size to 245/40/18 or 245/35/19 if you have 19s. 245 is the max width on the 8" wide front. The increased grip will reduce understeer a lot whilst maintaining responsive turn in.
Firestone firehawk Indy 500(basically a rebranded Bridgestone summer) is an uhp summer (that, arguably, should be considered a max performance tire) is the latest rage for a best bang for your buck summer tire. 245/40, 255/40 or 245/35, 255/35, if 19s. |

Do you have the msport brake package?
As for driving modes, full DSC off and manual shifting. Tire pressures depend on tire size, tire type, and ambient conditions. Generally you want the pressures high enough to help stiffen the sidewall flex and maintain as large a contact patch as you can while getting crispy responsive handling, I found the psi in the upper 30's to be ok when hot, 40 is a bit high imho (im running square 235\45\18) |

Did you check after each run and look at the edges of the tires? There's a little triangle/mark to show the edge of the tire. If you see wear past that there's not enough pressure, if you see a lot of clean tread above that mark you have too much pressure. The pic below shows how the tire should look. Sport Mode because you are starting out. Michelin Pilot Super Sport or PS4S should be fine. Forget OEM and hybrid pads, go with Porterfield or Pagid dedicated track pads. For brake fluid, go with Castrol SRF or Motul RBF600. Warm-up and cool-down laps. Learn your corners and what your setup can handle. These tips should keep you on the track.
