It's the C8.R (racing) with a 5.5L V8 twin cam w/ flat-plane crankshaft. The base C8 will debut with the 6.2 pushrod borrowed from the C7. There's probably going to be a huge price gap between base and racing, more so than the GT350 and GT350R.

You are looking at the equivalent to BMW M8 GTE(Le Mans race car).

Precisely. That's a C8 racer. Puppy won't be street legal.

As for the comments that front-engined 'vettes won't ever die ... in case y'all haven't noticed, high-performance sports cars period are dying -- and the ones that are surviving are primarily mid-engine and, in the case of the 911, rear-engine designs.

Why?

Primarily to accommodate hybridization, at a minimum. It's just the way things are going. Chevy gets that. It's among the reasons why the Viper died. It's why Aston Martin DBxs are clinging to life behind the Vulcans and other mules. It's why the upcoming Supra will be the last true, ICE-only high-performance sports coupe Japan will ever produce. It's why the GT-R hasn't been refreshed. It's why Jaguar hasn't replaced the F-Type. Shall I go on?

Front-engine high-horsepower sports cars are slowly going the way of the dodo.

Mid engine ones will soon follow after the introduction of reasonably priced 100K mind blowing 0-60 EV sport cars.

lets face it most people who buy mid engine or 911s don't ever take them to the track where they shine lap after lap. it's for show, badge and 0-60 bragging rights.

the intro of tesla roadster in 2025(optimistic) will shift the market outlook.

EV's will rule this market. Most of the top tier tires used for N'Ring times are totally trashed after one flying lap, so the times are certainly no where near repeatable lap after lap. It won't be long until an EV can run 13.2 miles flat out.

Amusingly, I wouldn't be surprised to see the Taycan post absurdly fast times when it arrives.

uhh...what?

The F-type is not old and doesn't need replacing. There is a next generation GT-R in the works. Have you forgotten about the insanely capable and fast Mustang GT350R, Challenger Hellcat? Camaro ZL1 and Z28? M4 GTS/CS? Jaguar just introduced a 600hp super sedan Project 8. Mercedes AMG GTS? TT-RS? M2 CS? the upcoming 500hp+ Alfa GTV? The next generation 'muscle car' is supposed to get SMALLER. Even better...

Hybridization is certainly trendy and will be increasing but there are still loads of ICE high powered sports and sporty cars around.

Personally i'd like to see LESS power, MUCH LESS weight, and more enthusiasm. People are so focused on totally irrelevant lap times and have forgotten what makes cars FUN. it's not lap times.....it's the FEEL of them. Nurburgring lap times are the most useless criteria that's involved motoring culture in years.

Not for a while, hybrid setups with electric motors driving the front wheels with energy stored from braking will rule for a while methinks.

I love that my Stingray’s engine is easy to get to. The Boxster is a nightmare. Definitely handles nice. Although the Stingray on paper is equivalent in the turns, you have to work harder to get those levels of grip.

W. Edwards Demming defined "quality" as "fitness for use". Considering the Corvette has always been a sports car that provides a level of driving performance on the order of halo cars from other European manufacturers for half or two-thirds the price, I'd say, the 'Vette has been a high quality car for some time now.

So where did the adamant mid-engine deniers go? Or the ones that swore it would be a Cadillac? LOL

That definitely sounds more Ferrari (Flat plane) then traditional corvette.

GM Trademarks the Mid-Engine Corvette Name of ZORA Across the World…Including China!

Quote:
It looks like the flow of information from Government sources from around the world are helping Corvette enthusiasts pinpoint potential markets for the C8 Mid-Engine Corvette. We recently detailed some of the new aero techologies found from the US Patent Office. Previously, official trademark registrations filed by GM have long pointed to the name of “ZORA”, in honor of first Corvette chief engineer Zora Arkus-Duntov who championed a mid-engine Corvette design for nearly his entire career at GM.

The last we heard on the trademark scene was that final approval for a trademark in Australia for the Corvette’s crossed-flags badge. It had previously been delayed as Aussie officials complained of the crossed-flags too closely resembling the official Red Cross seal.

Here’s an new update on the trademark front and it sure looks like GM is keeping their trademark lawyers busy! A member of the MidEngineCorvetteForum.com named “Quinten” tells us that he’s found the ZORA trademark everywhere. Here’s what he writes:

A dozen minutes spent looking up trademarks can go a long way. GM has trademarked ZORA, spelt (sic) in capital letters only, in a plethora of countries worldwide. The United States, United Kingdom, European Union, China, Japan, Korea, and Australia are the most notable countries/unions in which the trademark is registered.

This could very well be nothing more than a precautionary measure on GM’s part in the case that they decide to offer ZORA in International markets. However, an image(below) was included in the Chinese and Korean ZORA trademark files and it may reveal the font in which this name is represented on the vehicle and in marketing campaigns.

Sure enough, we went looking for the Chinese registration and found it here:

We reached out to some font gurus who believe this ZORA is Times New Roman. Most likely not the font that will be used for any badging.

Quinten also suggested that maybe GM would use a stylized version of Zora’s signature which is very recognizable in the hobby. Here’s Zora’s signature as an example:

I for one am really hoping the ZORA name is presented somehow on the C8 mid-engine Corvette. Zora worked tirelessly to build a production mid-engine sports car and it would be a great way to recognize and introduce the first chief engineer to a whole new fan base.

The Mid-Engine Corvette Forum
The new MidEngineCorvetteForum.com has already established itself as being a great resource for all the latest C8 news, rumors and more. There are some very knowledgeable enthusiasts who have taken up residence on the new forums and I learn something new about the next Corvette just about every day! Come check it out for yourself!

I saw a pretty good render of this car. I looked pretty cool, but the back end looked absolutely shitty.
