Alright... it's time for a little bit of a longer term review now that I've spent some time in the car after its last trip to GMP Performance... quick recap, here's where she stands on the performance mod side:
Cosmetic stuff includes:
Most of this was done at the most recent trip down to GMP... shortly after the spring trip in which I did a number of maintenance items, sway bars and the intake, I knew I needed more. My goal with this car is to have it be primed for track use... and we are definitely there now. After the coilovers settled in I got the alignment dialed and had a local body shop professionally roll my fender liners (the sheet metal wasn't touched!)... I'm currently running: -3.0 camber up front 0.2 total toe up front 7.5 castor up front (due to M lower control arms) -2.0 camber out back 0.4 total toe out back No rubbing whatsoever in this combination... however the ride height is very low and the rubber "weather" guards inside of the wheel wells will hit the ground through high speed compression. So the past 3 weeks have been very awesome since having everything finalized and dialed in... the turn in is absolutely phenomenal, and the car is the most stable and composed vehicle I've ever driven. I have the Ohlins dampers set to #8 of 30 (which is firm as f*ck)... and the sway bars are set to their firmest setting as well. The good news is that even with all the stiffness of the suspension, I still have a hard time getting the back end out - or - it is much more predictable. The tires are helping a ton as the Sport Cup's are so sticky when they're warm. Since we put the Ground Control plates in, we removed some of the upper engine bay cover and the noise from the intake is screaming in through the cabin which is also quite awesome. It was very very muffled previously, now it's even more addicting! The brakes have provided me with an insane amount of stopping power... probably a combination of the pads and lines mostly... and while they are pretty loud, they stop the car on a dime. Not quite at the point where they're activating ABS, but pretty close. All in all... we're there. I've been heading out for 100 mile drives on a weekly basis and it's been a blast. The MPPSK gives the B58 enough power and torque to really take advantage of all the suspension and brake upgrades, and it is without a doubt now the weakest link the system... but... it's not that weak!!! Plan for now is to keep this thing clean, lubricated and well driven... I am so happy with the outcome of everything, I think it's going to be a car to enjoy for a long time! I'm heading up to MPACT at Pocono next weekend... hope to see some of you there!

Thanks for the report!
What do you think have been the best pieces to improve driver engagement? What has been the best bang for the buck upgrade? |

Best upgrade that improves driver engagement... tough call... the LSD makes this RWD car handle & deliver power so much better, but if you're in an x-drive then I'd bet springs would be the biggest difference maker. The stock suspension on the 340 is definitely the weak link IMO... the B58 puts the stock suspension hardware to the limit from mile 0. Once you get the exhaust (because it's by far the best upgrade from the start!) then go for springs and sway bars, or coil-overs!

Thanks again. I am getting RWD so the LSD is my first priority. Had a ZHP 15 years ago and the open diff was terrible . I think exhaust will be up next but do want to drive it more to make sure I can live with the suspension.
Kick ass build! |

I was fortunate enough to get the M performance LSD on my A8 335i and it really changed the car. This car was going to be something I was only going to keep for so long but i'm slowing modifying the car similar to the OP. Its really Turing into something special.
Love the build!

275/35 !!! It fits !!!
This is a Proxes R888R on an Apex EC-7 18x9.5 et43. Im running -2.0 degrees of camber in the back. I stuck with 245/40 up front on the Apex EC-7 18x9 et31... still -3.0 degrees of front camber. These are gonna be great track tires.

Out for a long drive this morning... the R888r's heat up much quicker than the Cup 2's... and they are much stickier. I'm running 31/34 PSI cold which gets up to 34/37 PSI hot.
It used to be a pretty straightforward procedure to get the Cup 2's loose (full throttle 2nd gear usually did the trick), but the R888r's don't spin (at least I haven't been able to get them to). The 275 section isn't noticeable - not much of a surprise there - but I'm happy that my rolling diameters are now even front to back. And the 275 out back just looks awesome. Looking forward to more trips... still contemplating the downpipe and tune... eventually I suppose, but I'm not convinced yet.

Sad day today... winter wheels/tires and winter brakes put on...
Solid set up still with same wheels but using Michelin Pilot Sport A/S 3+; and went with Pagid coated rotors and Akebono ceramic pads. Had an oil change as well... but counting down the days until 2020 warm weather here in the North East. Still keeping my eye out for that Porsche 718 so if anyone is looking for a nice 340i hit me up!! LOL!

I think my ultimate move will be to get an ER catted DP, go back to AWE exhaust, and run BootMod3. Time will tell... still another year or factory warranty plus the pending release of Dinan's OBD tunes.
