Great thread guys, must say very informative. I have 2010 f11 535i with close to 250k km, bought from first owner in Switzerland. It was maintained at official BMW dealership since day one, BMW long life every 25k km and never a single issue ever since. Planning to do a preventive maintenance on it that includes rod bearings, injectors, coils and sparkplugs and charge pipes together with coolant pipes. Note that valve cover was replaced around 10k kms ago so not planning on touching that one for a time being. I would ask you guys, what rod bearings to order, some more durable, since OEM ones are a bit thin like someone mentioned earlier in the thread?

But your rod bearings might still fail, as discussed. I am looking for someone else to try my hack in my video if you are interested.

I don' t want to be alone in blowing up my engine . 🤣😂🤣

Aside from premium bearings and Arp rod bolts, I want to put an S55 oil pump in. Since the S55 aux pump and pickup won't fit, I would use the S55 oil pump alone and stock oil pickup. S55 oil pumps are supposed to have higher flow - is this true?

Is this all a good idea?

From the discussion above it doesn't seem like xDrive has any aftermarket options.
So sorry to hear about this. If this happened during easy driving and 3 rods are cooked, then its most likely just a bad luck. Given that there must be up to million N55 engines on the road, then systematic failures are very rare events, especially on later LCI engines. Did your oil pump failed? How often did you change oil?

Well my conjecture is that these are not rare events, and that none of explanations I see in forums and videos are the real cause.

Hence I made two vidoes with a solution. Which I will be trying out.

I will post updates to my youtube channel after I have driven for say 6 months. Right now, just waiting for a good used crank to be fedexed.

So what is your thinking what caused this issue?

I have F10 535i LCI with 140k miles on the clock. From MHD logs, oil pressure at cold start jumps to max in less than 1 second and during steady driving, pressure is very good and stable. Only at track, its under braking into left handers is where pressure drops and then spikes again.

I am changing oil max at 10 000 miles and did preventive rod bearings change at 125k miles. Old ones looked evenly worn and not bad at all.

Thanks, watched that. Did not fully understood it still. The assumption that there is a blow-by for particle contaminated oil sounds quite doubtful. Perhaps the particles build up in your oil pump was caused by engine wear? How often did you change oil by the way?

I made a separate build thread. Updates and discussion should move there I think.
