Is the Gaming PC you have recommend better than this one I have been looking at?

https://www.pcspecialist.co.uk/view/Fusion-Pro-S/
The Fusion Pro has a better graphics card, more memory (and much quicker) and more storage

The MSI Trident has a marginally better CPU (but can't be overclocked)

Arguably the Fusion Pro is the much better PC. Looking at the spec shown, I would bump the PSU up to 650W for that little bit more headroom. Depending on the gaming they will do I would bump the cooling up a bit as if it gets hot with an air cooler it is going to get loud. One of the Corsair AIO water coolers would be great for this.

Thanks so much for the feedback.

How is it games consoles have a life cycle of say 5 or so years and the games are pretty decent and yet with PC gaming the machines are constantly evolving? Are the games that much better on high end gaming PC's than on consoles?

Basically this, I should have added that I'm building a SFF machine (not particularly for gaming) to replace my ATX build as I no longer have the space for the larger machine.

Also, if the OP is wanting something out of the box, I'm presuming that overclocking isn't going to be on the cards.

In short, yes. The hardware capabilities of a PC can outstrip a console multiple fold as you've got the scope for expansion, upgrading and turning the effects up to eleventy stupid. The console games are limited by the hardware as the games have been designed to work with one particular spec.

The graphics on even a medium powered PC from a few years ago are far superior to the current consoles. Not surprising considering consoles cost less than a half decent graphics card, let alone the whole PC!

When you go to a console gaming show like E3 in LA, all the big publishers have vast stands with rows and rows of LED panels showcasing the latest game with controllers so you can play, all sat on top of a plinth, in the plinth (out of sight) it's a high end PC not a console.

But as a dedicated machine a console is a very good piece of kit at a very reasonable price and meets the needs of the vast number of gamers especially the X and 4 pro.

The beauty of a console is that its plug and play. Every game will work almost without exception.

PC's always push the boundaries in relation to graphics, CPU and memory. As a result there are multiple games on a PC that simply wouldn't work on a console.

The Total War series is a classic example. Likewise Virtual reality on a PC is far superior to VR on a PS4.

That said you can enter a world of pain in relation to constantly upgrading a PC to cope with games..no worries with a console.

Good spec but your hard drive and ram speed will be the bottlenecks if you want to push it to the max.

By the way there is nothing wrong with the 1080ti if you want to save your self a shed load of money and still have pretty much the same performance.

Well as long as the games are on the M2 then it should be fine. Partially agree with the memory, I'm still running 16gb and haven't run into memory issues as of yet. Not that many games that will soak up 16gb worth of memory.

Didn't notice the M.2 on the spec.

The mobo can take faster ram.

I don't think higher than 3000mhz ram will make any real world difference, I tried overclocking my 3000mhz ram and it didn't make any noticeable difference in benchmarks anyway.

I wanted to spend around £80 and get the best 24 inch possible with speakers built in preferably. I don't see the point in going all out as he's only 6 and probably wouldn't even notice the difference

Going to be a stretch to get one with built in speakers at that price unless you go for a used one.

This is the best 24 inch with speakers I can find currently.

Best without them is this one.

The pc I have ordered has a GEFORCE RTX 2070 Graphics card which has the following display port connections; HDMI, USB Type-C, DVI-DL.

His Samsung TV/Monitor has both HDMI and the DVI-DL connections.

I need to purchase a cable. I take it would be best to purchase a HDMI cable?

Yes. A decent HDMI cable has more capability tham the DVI cable. It is worth investing in a high quality one with the latest standard that the card/monitor can support.

I've finally managed to find the time to get the computer up and running. I've put 4 fans in I moved the stock fan to the front and put 2 coloured ones in the top and one in the back. The front and back ones draw cool air in and the top ones extract this. Is this the correct setup or would you recommend a different way?

I would usually always have the rear fan as an exhaust fan. Drawing the air in from the front and back is a bit disruptive. I would have two coloured fans in the front, keep the stock one at the back and the final colour one on top. Better airflow setup and the front will look a bit more complete.

The rear should be an exhaust with one at the front drawing in.

Thats all you will need as the graphics card and processor will also have fans.
If you have an Uber system then you might need more fans but otherwise just more noise.

Download this programme (everyone worth their salt uses it ) connect your front and rear fans up and monitor the temps

It is quite noisy with all fans running to be honest. With the fan on the front you can't see any lights as the casings in the way that's why I swapped it and put the stick at the front then coloured at the back so you could see the coloured fan through the glass window. I'll swap the fan at the back round to exhaust the heat and I may disconnect the 2 top fans from spinning and just have them lighting up so take the noise down abit
