I doubt they would be as I'm sure they are aware of the rules.

The bleep on 2nd button press is very short. (Jlr cars are the other way round to bmw in that two fob presses also deadlocks and single press doesn't whereas on bmw double press disables the deadlocks). Peugeot is the same way round as jlr but on a peugeot, the doors are a bit tinny so the additional locking noise is audible anyway so no bleep needed!

All I can say is that it doesn't sound like the alarm blaring away at full chat. A discreet little 'beep' is all.

Surely there are more annoying things to get all legislative about? Mobile phones on trains or planes? People wearing baseball caps back-to-front? The use of the word 'like' as punctuation?

Ha, as much as I'd like to legislate against some of those things I wasn't really rallying against alarm beeps I'm just struggling to understand the benefit.

Maybe you guys can code this:

I just found myself always doubting whether I had locked the car or not, quite annoying. Probably the result of laziness coming from cars that do beep when locked.

Also, if you double click, doesn't that turn off the internal motion sensor?

I often double click as I'm paranoid, but that probably actually lessens the security!

Sounds right. Plus, I don't like my neighbours.

Mine is self coded to beep. Since my neighbours do a lot worse "noise pollution" than that to piss me off I don't care

I tried this today. I see the menu item showing up under doors and locks in settings but no audible beep when locking or unlocking. Any advice is appreciated.
Thanks

I've coded this too and I like it and the beep is quite subtle. Now when I lock the car I hear the beep and see the door mirrors fold up so I know it is locked

Do you have an alarm that came with the car?

I'm guessing that as you're in the US where the factory-fit alarm is an option, you don't have the alarm fitted.

You obviously need the alarm in order for it to beep...

Yes factory fitted - I assume all BMW's have one fitted as standard worldwide ?

Thanks guys. Alarm is an option here in the US. And I don't have one. Hence no beep. I coded it back to no beep and instead reduced the wait time for the mirrors to fold on lock by changing the werte value from 0F to 00. Now I here the motor for folding mirrors on lock. However I just learned that if you have the hazard lights on then the mirrors stay extended out on lock for more visibility. Pretty cool little feature.

I got the factory fitted alarm S302A, and coded and got the option in the iDrive now.
I enabled the option but still no sound at all when lock or unlock.

BTW, my car is German version. Any other suggestion? i would love to have a beep confirmation when locking the car. Thanks.

Funny that all cars on the TV make beep noises when locked. Lot of coding going on!!

I must have been sleeping when i read through the threads... I have mixed your reply with Gabreigns post.

Since Gabreigns has no alarm and make sense that it doesn't beep.

Another interesting thing i found is that http://www.bmwarchive.org/ says my car has the S302A from the VIN decode result, but http://BMWVIN.com gives different result which doesn't show the alarm option from VIN decode.

NVM, i found it somewhere else that if your key doesn't have the panic button, then it is not equipped with the factory alarm system. Mine doesn't have the panic button, and no wonder it will never make any sound. Was mis-lead by the BMW Archive website's VIN decode result, and thought i have the alarm

where did you go to code this?

As I said on page 1:

It's HU_NBT (3000) ACOUSTICAL_LOCK_CONFIRM

set to aktiv.

Can people not just look at the indicators for conformation, I can't understand for the life of me why you need an audible sound from the 90s :
