For those of you in Irvine, there is a SMOG checkpoint on Barranca northbound in Woodbridge. I've never seen one of these before but it's on the road complete with rollers to put a load on the car.

as far as I know these are optional so i'd just say no and be on the way. They'll probably give you a hard time and ticket for tint & front plate though.

I did read that these were optional, but I'm sure the CHP will talk to you like you have no choice. I'm not sure what the purpose is, seems like a waste of time and money.

Drivers are stopped by the CHP officer and asked to participate in the voluntary program. Drivers won't be penalized for refusing to participate and the results of the inspection won't affect the consumer regardless of the outcome.

A few years ago, BMW wanted my F30 back for a week or two for emissions testing in Oxnard. They gave me a fully loaded F10 535i to drive as a loaner. If they did that again I probably wouldn't oppose, but then again I consider my F31 a prized possession now compared to my F30.
