What gauges do you run in your bootmod3 dashboard?

Just wanted to get a feel for what gauges people are using in there bootmod3 dashboard.

I also have a question on a few of the gauges.

- What are the difference between the three boost gauges. Boost (Pre-Throttle), Boost Pressure (Deviation) and Boost Pressure (Target)?

-What is the difference between the three different AIT gauges?

-What is the difference between the three MAF gauges?

There seems to be some duplicates items you can select and I am unsure which one is the correct one to look at or if it even matters.

Boost pre-throttle is the boost pressure measured in the charged air system just prior top the throttle plate.

Boost target (or commanded) is the boost pressure the DME wants

Boost deviation is boost target - boost (pre-throttle)

I'm assuming you meant IAT, not AIT! There must be two sensor locations for measuring intake air temps. I'm assuming the default IAT PID chosen is located in the intake air manifold. I'm not sure about the other one.

MAF, of mass air flow, measures the amount of air being sucked through the intake. I'm not sure why there are 3.

I run IAT, ignition Cyl 1, boost (pre-throttle), coolant temp, EGT, knock detected, oil pressure

Thanks for the explanation!!! And yes it was a typo, I meant to say IAT!!

Also can you explain EGT?

EGT in the case of the N55 is a modeled value used in an exhaust gas expansion model to calculate the exhaust fractions required through the turbine and the wastegate (hence calculating the required wastegate position). It is also used in fuel calculations.

That is a good question!!! I have the same FMIC as you and I am usually about 10 degrees higher that outside temp.

Don't really know if that is good or not??

can someone please enlighten me on how to properly monitor oil pressure? I've added it to my gauges seeing as how the more I read about modding turbo cars, the more people talk about how critical oil pressure is. What is a good level? I'm looking at the read out and realizing I have no clue if I'm good or not lol.

So what is the actual boost? And when you upgrade turbo and "increase" your boost (say to 20/21psi) do you increase the pre-throttle or DME target?

How do you know if the boost is working well?

A quick way to add a real-time boost or other gauges is to purchase and plug in one of these Bluetooth connectors into your OBD2 port near the driver's left knee. Please see attached photos. It has phone apps to add gauges and performance testing like 0-60mph and 1/4 mile. Inexpensive and works well!

What are you using for datalogging/monitoring?

In MHD, you can see boost target, boost pre throttle, and boost manifold. You want to compare boost in the manifold vs. boost target. +/- 1 psi deviation is considered normal. More than that you might have a leak or other issue.

The manifold boost is the "actual" boost the engine is seeing. Boost pre throttle will be the same when the throttle is open 100%, but just because you have the pedal at 100% that does not mean the throttle is fully open. Some tunes regulate throttle position to control boost, engine load, etc.

You will not target higher boost simply by bolting on a bigger turbo. You need a tune that targets higher boost. You take advantage of the bigger turbo by targeting a higher boost that is not possible with stock turbo (over simpifying because a bigger turbo will generally make more HP than a smaller turbo at the same boost level, but thats the general idea). If you increase pre-throttle or manifold boost without increasing DME target that would be overboosting... your tune should not do that.

Good info! Do you happen to know what the equivalent of the "manifold boost" in MHD would be in Bootmod3? Not seeing that as one of the options.

Manifold boost is MAP (the manifold pressure sensor, after the TB) in BM3.

Make sure its more than 0.

Kidding, but indeed it is not very talked about. You might want to just peek at other people's logs to get a general idea about what it should be at different RPMs. I would say the main idea for monitoring in real time is to make sure you dont have a sudden drop or significant deviation from your normal operating range (after confirming your normal operating range is on par with other N55s) that could suggest a mechanical issue, oiling issue, etc.

Having a gauge showing oil pressure will likely not save you IF it suddenly dropped dramatically so I think it is rather pointless.

Idle is ~45psi and it will increase with load and RPM to ~85psi.....and drop to ~22psi during emergency braking.

I only use the gauges BEFORE going WOT to check oil temp and IAT. Keep your eyes on the road when you floor it!!!
