One girl there had to leave after a few days, poor girl looked like she had the measles. That particular (Rio Taureg) hotel where in the process of getting rid of all shrubs around sunbeds and restaurants as they thought they might attract them in. |

They were even biting me on the plane on the way back, just as I thought I'd escaped.

Mosquito mostly feeds at night. Mosquito is sluggish under 20 deg C So the rooms were
a/c and kept temp at 17 degrees from dusk till dawn to escape their wrath. |

Weird we've been to Cape Verde 3 or 4 times [Summer, Easter & Christmas - not the same year] and never have had problems with mosquitoes. Admittedly we apply Jungle Formula Extreme [50% DEET] liberally before heading out in the evening and have a mozzie plug in the room.

Mosquitos are remarkably picky. If they don't find you to their liking, you're good. If you are like me, they will come from miles away to hunt you down. When I was on the Mayan Riviera in January, the only moving mozzy in the whole of the Yucatan paid me a visit.
