New car envy, having a wobble moment
Quote:
Cheers Ian I got it wrong, its actually on 8400 now! Yeah it sounds like it doesn't get used much, but its mostly town runs for a few miles a few times a week, and some long 3-400mile cruises every few months. Every time I take it out it still feels like a proper occasion, the partner loves it and so does the dog! I went from doing between 15 - 18000 mpa commuting upto Knutsford to 2000pa after covid and now working from home permanently so I'm not complaining. I had said it was going to be a 10 year keeper for me, but I now have new car envy as we got my partner a Toyota CHR Hybrid Orange design for her birthday at the start of this month (which we both love) after her owning a Mazda 3 for the last 10 years. My term for the RS is ending in July, so I've been looking at figures. Pay 100 quid a month less for the next 4 years and own it outright, which was always the plan....would prob have 17000 on it by then but also be 9 years old.................or.........keep payments same as now but get a new model. So in true forum fashion I'm test driving an RS6 avant next week . Its the only thing that will tempt me away from the RS5 but I think its going to feel too big for me to be comfortable with...bearing in mind my 5 is as long as a new Range Rover, deceptively. Gotta try one tho right? Just seems like a no brainer. I'm not getting any younger, never know whats round the corner, keep my payments same now (as I have considerable equity in my current car) and get a newer face lifted RS5, with higher Vorsprung spec. I do miss a sunroof and HUD so they are on the must have list. Rest of the car still ticks every box for me, its the perfect all rounder for my / households requirements. I can get 2.4m lengths of wood in it which has helped me greatly in building our garden over the last 6 years! This is half of it when just finishing last bit of turf last year that shows all the stuff I built. Dealers are also trying to find a Competition version, as want to try one out but very hard to find. Im not sure on one as I think the ride is harder and they removed some sound insulation to get an 8KG reduction in weight whilst also adding a sports exhaust, so I think "she" will hate that? Watch this space I suppose...I will obviously update here as/ when it happens

Wobble moment gone. New car day yesterday!
Did deal last Monday with Poole Audi in Dorset. Exact spec I was looking for, Vorsprung edition so it has all the toys. 4k on clock and cheaper pm than my last one, so it did end up being a no brainer. 6am start yesterday, 2 hour handover and then another 4 hour drive home that was possibly one of the most enjoyable drives of my life. The thing is awesome. Brilliant to have HUD and sunroof back. Loving adaptive cruise. Strangely it feels like a completely different car to drive when pushing on than my last one, in a better way. Although I'm not sure what to make of adaptive suspension, first time I've had it and I think its a bit softer in comfort on Mways and dual carriageways, making the car "bounce" more over bumps, like its softer springs. Obviously its more comfortable that way but think it feels a little less planted than the standard suspension did. Not sure yet, only done one journey and certainly wasn't testing it to extremes through corners with Mrs "slow down" sat next to me, so time will tell if I prefer it or not. Really surprised with handover, got a "cover reveal" and a bottle of bubbly, thats more than I got on my brand new AMG! Whole deal was really good, quick and perfectly smooth. Best transaction I've experienced in all my years of purchasing cars. Overall had a fantastic day, although shattered when got home, totally worth it and no regrets.

Audrey do make very good looking cars nowadays and that is very nice indeed.
Their interiors have always been up there IMO, now the exteriors have caught up too! Only problem with them for me is that they offer the 'hot version' wheels to every other model as an option. So a 2 litre diesel A4/ A5 can look very similar for just a few quid. Especially as the RS versions have been toned down on the 'mad' front. |

Stunning. I think the sportback is the best looking RS, and that one looks awesome.
Think I have heard it said before that the adaptive suspension is a bit more bouncy than the standard - but the ride on the standard isnt great (although better than the M5!) so maybe a compromise worth having if you do a lot of short journeys.... |

Never quite understood why Audrey give the 'S' four exhaust tips and the 'RS' two big ones.
Surely in the world of ICE, more exhausts is more? As I grew up in the 1970s, any car with four exhaust tips has always been synonymous with power and fast in my immature eyes! |

That and the GTi generally looked cooler and I liked the tartan seats.... Give me the RS twin oval anyday, as synonymous with RS as it comes.... |

The M performance cars now seem to come with quad pipes, which IMO were a signature of the full fat M models from E39 and E46 M5 and M3 onwards.
