Two new BMs

Another E89 Z4 landed last week, along with a (not very exciting) F31 320 petrol manual.

Nice. Are you going to remap them?

I was waiting for that!

Still under deliberation. On paper the N20 in the E89 and B48 in the F31 are almost identical, yet the F31 seems to have more 'grunt'. Maybe it has been remapped and no-one knows?

Love the colour combo on the F31, that would have been my choice if I'd had two identical cars side by side, I just don't like the Estoril. Goes well with the pale interior. Nice wheels on it too.

I like the interior or the Red one. I don't know what it is about Estoril these days, to me it ages a car! It used to be my favourite BMW colour!

Estoril was a run-out colour only given to the E89 in it's last year of production.

It's funny as on another (dedicated) forum everyone gushes over an Estoril Blue Z4. I have always liked it, as I associate it with 'M' cars.

The Melbourne Red of the F31 is quite striking IMO. I do love a pale interior, but they are a bugger to keep clean!

I love a red car, Melbourne is lovely, still a big fan of Imola on a BMW as well.

I wanted red with my latest daily, Love it, and always on the lockout for the rarer colours, just wish it had a crema interior like your BMW!

It's a 'luxury' spec. BMW's idea of luxury and mine is slightly different. It's an SE spec with leather and extended lighting. Not a lot of toys, but it is a workhorse so not bothered.

Best I could find, as I needed/ wanted a manual. Rare as hen's teeth, a manual BMW (or any German car TBH).

First F31 I've had, but always been keen on an estate car. It drives really nicely; the gearbox is a lot smoother than in the Z4 (and it's the same box).

Both cars are the same age, same mileage (very low) and similar service history.

I am a bit confused that the F31 is a facelift but has an older version of i-Drive than my previous 2018 F33.

I did start looking at RS4s (and RS6s) but the cost got a bit out of control and they are a bit too 'special' for a general workhorse for me. The F31 was less than 1/2 the price of a decent RS4 aswell!

Ill be honest its a bit to special for what I bought it for. That is for moving and clearing the house out and taking sh1t to the tip.

Its had a few trips now, and I got all precious and bought custom made boot liners for it! The car and engine makes the run more fun though!

Should have just kept the white one Too many badges on the front wings IMO, never liked the later 'wing bling' with the chrome hockey stick, but it looks a tidy car.

You should be able to code id6 lite if your running id5. Did this on an F36 before.

The 'essay' on the wings will be removed in due course, along with the sill decals.

And yes, I should have kept the white one. It was a great little car.

As someone who regularly throws bikes/climbing/fell running kit in the back, sleep in it regularly, and get in sometimes wearing less than freshly washed clothes I can certainly concur with that one! Mild leather wipes are a brilliant thing to just regularly give the leather a wipe down with to stop the build up of too much dirt. I should have known better, I had a mk1 VRS Octavia years ago with the white cloth, you had to wet vac it once a month!

I think too many poverty spec 1 series and otherwise boring specs came with it which dilutes the effect. It looked stunning on the E36/46 coupes because there were so few of them, IMO. When every single car comes in the same colours it does somewhat diminish the effect of the 'special' ones.

.
I did see an outwardly identical version of mine that I parked next to in Glencoe last weekend and that had a manual which I thought must have been rare on any F30 series car.

I think the non-M bumpers actually look quite nice, mainly because they're the rarer one to see on the roads!

And of course it has the softer springs, too.
The E89 M-sport's suspension is just too firm to be even remotely comfortable and have a bad habit of cracking wheels (but they look nice!)

Ditch the runflats was the answer for us when after 3 months of ownership she cracked a rear. Many years on and numerours sets of non RFT's and all wheels are fine still.
