On first impressions, can't say I prefer it over the G31, which was a great car, but not small.....

And I really don't like these big slab screens everyone seems to be adopting

As a man with a G31 540i Lci, I'm sticking with what I have. The new one does absolutely nothing for me and will no doubt have even more tech... that you really don't need..

Its a big box that looks fugly from all angles with 3er LCi design plastic shapes /bits and even less visibility out of the rear quarter windows

This is a compelling option for the I-Pace's replacement. Loved the G31 we had, and prefer the estate form factor overall.

Although the Mrs has her eye on a 7 seater Defender EV so we'll have to see...

I'm not keen on the looks (plus it's too big for my needs), and given Harry's recent review of the 5er EV saloon I wouldn't even look at the new 5-Touring.

Fortunately no longer than the saloon, but still huge for a 5 - just 2cm short of 8GC length and 6cm longer than the 6GC which felt huge when it was launched. I guess that means the next 3 Series will be approaching the G30 5 Series length…

Just looked out the window at my G31 and thought, why on earth would they need to make it's replacement any bigger. The hybrid 550 will be worth an extended test drive when it comes out later but other than that I don't think it interests me. An EV on an ICE based platform seems like too many compromises.

IMO your car is as close to perfect as you can get. Straight six. Elegant styling. All the tech you'll ever need. Big, but no too big. What would be the incentive to chop it in for the new one?

The roads are getting smaller and the cars are getting bigger...... I guess it is to better accommodate our ever growing obese population

I like the design, think this works better than the saloon shape.

£70k for the entry level machine.
I dont remember what I paid for my discounted F11 530d but I reckon it was about £30k less - and a lot prettier

My pretty well spec'd G31 540i was under £50k. I know prices have gone up, but I do wonder who is buying / leasing these new cars?

To a certain extent yes, but salary sacrifice only if EV, and companies must be starting to look at monthly lease costs, as only going one way

Beyond huge. Actually looks wise could have been worse but anyone that doesn't unplug the fuse for the light up grille needs their head examined. Drove past an ix5 with it lit up tonight looks so chavy and after market and is awful.

I imagine (hope!) that you can turn it off in the iDrive menu. The grille on my 8 LCI lights up, thankfully slightly more tastefully than that in my view, but it is switchable.

Not sure if I imagine it, but people who venture into the BMW lane on the motorway seem to be quicker to move over when it’s on, probably thinking WTF is that!

Train drivers and now dentists?
Oh and anyone else in the 'public sector' who had massive rises in the last fiscal year.

I'm with you, if only Jag would move to an estate format for the next models (that will be 120k apparently) then I can wish I could afford one!

The idea of the 5 tourer appeals to me but way bigger than I need now...

I don't mind the looks although I prefer the last G-series. The price though, fucking hell.

Wow that is massive, that's effectivly a 7 series touring.

That platform clearly is targeted for other markets other than Europe. Usually car makers would make a LWB version for that. Looks like BMW have turned its back on the European market with this 5er generation. The only other reason I can think of is to be able to get a big enough battery in it to get the range without having to raise the height of the car too much.

More space usually is a good thing but at some point, too much impacts the practicality and cost. I think this one has reached that point.

I fear this car will become very niche in the UK and with UK being RHD, is this the beginning of the end for the 5 series in the UK? I think so.
