$199 BMW oil change subscription

It appears the local dealers are getting more aggressive at their service offerings. With how it's written and how you can use it for more frequent intervals, this is actually competitive with DIY parts costs. Caveat is only older cars qualify. Thoughts?

- Includes oil service (oil & filter). Standard scope not
included
- $199 cost
- Fully transferable and stays with the vehicle
- 3-year coverage period from the enrollment date with
no mileage restrictions

Offer cannot be combined with any other offers. Offer valid on all vehicles older than 60 months OR with at least 60,000 miles. Not eligible for vehicles less than 60 months old or with less than 60,000 miles or older than 20 years. Please see dealer for complete details some exclusions may apply.Additional costs may apply. When i received this offer it said they only change the oil based on vehicles CBS system. So in other words, you can't do "early" oil changes nor can you decide your own interval. They will only change it when the vehicle says it needs to be changed. This basically forces you into long intervals (10k+ miles), far longer than i would do DIY.

Well, since I can do an oil and filter change for less than $15 when I want with the OEM filter (Mann) and LM from FCP, think I'll forgo the "benefit".

I've heard guys with pre-paid dealer service plans that include free 10k mile oil changes say that they just do an oil change themselves in the middle at the 5k mile mark.

Yeah, but that defeats the entire purpose of the "value" of this plan lol

FCP Euro, that price is basically just the return shipping for the used oil/filter.

The interval is the lesser of 1yr or X miles.

FCP Euro allows you to return used oil and filter you've bought from them for a refund.

The cost for the customer is this the initial purchase of the kit and shipping the used oil/filter back to FCP Euro.

This. I'm already at my second oil change via FCP Euro and I'm a big fan. Return shipping of used oil wasnt even as bad as I thought.

A bit off topic, but...The SA I spoke with about the oil change subscription was trying to scare me into buying, saying BMW could use the DIY work against you in the event of a warranty or goodwill repair claim. The onus is on the dealer/OEM to prove the DIY work caused the damage, but not sure how they can do that other than just say it did.

Nope they can't!
Magnusson-Moss act protects owners against these tactics. Not to mention they will use that LL01 FE garbage.

Correct. I was about to bring that up with the SA, but decided to not go down that rabbit hole. LL04 FTW! Been using LM TopTec 4600 .

And you can even make that $0 if you pay through PayPal. PayPal Covers something like up to $30 in return shipping up to 10 times per year

It doesn't prevent them from initially denying a warranty claim but it could prevent them from winning in court. How many customers have the resources to fight in court? Not many. How often does it gets that far? Almost never.

They are braking law outright! You can report them by just threatening that action. You can report them to BBB, local media etc. No one wants that attention.
I have seen cases where dealer would hide body work etc. and would end up dealership taking vehicle back and paying fees etc. for customer.

Or, you could get actually better oil in local Wal Mart or Auto Zone or Advance auto parts for similar price of shipping back.

The mileage and age restrictions are interesting, i.e. must be older than 60 months and over 60K miles.

I always hit the 1 year point before I hit the 10K mileage, so oil changes for me are roughly an annual event. The Value Service at my dealership is $99, so the subscription won't even pay for itself until the third and final year. Of course, I've got to put nearly another year of mileage on my car before even becoming eligible.

Important to remember as well that this is just another way to get cars "in the doors", which may more often than not lead to other services (or at least recommendations for them). This is particularly true for the older cars it targets.
