Instrument panel dead
Hi, I have a 2013, 52k mile 328i GT and the instrument panel has completely died. Dealer checked fuses and power to panel and all ok so suspected new panel needed. Priced up at £1070 from dealer, (I’m in uk), bulk of price is in parts so no great benefit going to an indie. That is a lot of money clearly and I suspect I just have to go ahead.. However I am thinking, this could well be a relatively simple fault like a dry solder joint or burnt out component. I know you can get them sent off for repair which is perhaps an option, or at least I get the duff one from the dealer and try and flog it somewhere for repair!
Anyone got any experience of this and suggested options to lessen the pain? |

Agreed, go to the digital group buy thread and see who wants to sell their old panel cheap

Update: booked it into dealer to get new panel, went to car this morning to drive there, panel live, back to normal and showing no issue apart from amber engine management light on. Decided to take to dealer anyway to get light checked out. They called later to say no faults, EML light not on. So will see what happens over next while.

Anytime something goes wrong a fault code should be generated, which will stay filed away in the iDrive until it's manually cleared. I'd make sure the dealer actually did check out the iDrive with a diagnostic tool, which only takes five minutes.

Apparently they did as they cleared a number of old codes but there were none related to the instrument panel.
Forgot to mention, my clock as shown in the panel now only moves about 1 min every hour or so. That's a new development, obv couldn't see it when panel was dead, was fine before that event, now that panel is live again, all seems fine apart from this slow clock. Weird. |

A clock acting that way could indicate a fault in the iDrive motherboard. There's an outside chance that the battery is a problem. I'd put it on a charger to see if the increased available current gets the clock running normally. If so you need a new battery.
