Exactly what i did, open the window, close the door, lock, walked away for two minutes, came back with key in hand , put my hand through and pressed ignition, everything came on.

Yes the immobiliser light was flashing, you press the ignition with the key in the car, it turns on, the deadlocks switch off so that you can then double pull to open the doors.

No alarm going off guys when you're leaning inside through the window to press the ignition?

It would indeed - if you don't disable the interior sensors first via idrive.

Isn't this why most of its irrelevant? Cars are really hard to break into now, which is why stealing the keys, and now the comfort access frequencies, has become a thieves favourite, and perhaps only, way of stealing cars.

If someone stole your keyless start frequency, how would they get in? Surely the doors would deadlock and the alarm would go off before they got close to starting it if they tried to break in? They still wouldn't have the access frequency to neutralise the security of the car, just the start frequency.

I leaned into a locked, but top open, 2 series cabriolet in Sheffield BMW showroom last month, to unlock it through the central lock button on the dash. Cue alarm, still locked doors and a few annoyed sales people.
