I tried mine and same here, only works w/ USB but not BT. I did upgrade ConnectedDrive SW but still failed. Also tried iOS 8 and iOS 9.2.

But I saw BT configurations, there's an option named "Show Pictures", no idea if means art work...

album art only shows when my iphone is connected through USB. I retrofitted my NBT through bimmertech but when I asked if it was possible to update and allow album art through bluetooth they said it was not possible at the moment. I recieved a 2016 rental BMW from the dealer a few weeks ago and the album art worked perfectly when using bluetooth from my iphone. Not sure how to resolve this issue or if it can be resolved.

i have a 2016. do you know what options were on the loaner car? i don't have navigation or 6NS but will have it coded in this week.

Do you need advanced BT option for this to work? I've read conflicting posts about this.

I think advanced BT doesn't help any, what you need may be to get NBT

I'm in the same boat, if I plug in to the center console USB I get album artwork and everything. BT only, however, no connected drive apps work and I don't get album artwork.

Another problem I've been noticing is that using BT only, the first song played is the data that is displayed forever. Even after skipping a song, it stays.

I will update my firmware tonight and see if any of this changes. I just though that I had to be plugged in to get album art and use connected drive but this thread has gotten me interested.

it's inconsistent for sure, but there have been confirmed owners who get album artwork with bt only. after many difficulties i'm having my coding session completed most likely today or tomorrow the latest. i'll report back once i have 6NS activated.

Went out to car to mess around before updating software and realized that I get album art over BT, its just a different type of a display than when I'm plugged in via USB. if I leave it on the now playing screen after selecting my BT device eventually the screen will change and show the album of the now playing song.

Update

Got software updated. Still getting album artwork over BT, but unable to use connected drive apps without connecting phone to USB (not sure if that's just how it goes or if I have a problem).

that's how mine works with usb plugged in. wait a few seconds and the album art shows, but with bt streaming nothing. i'm getting coded as we speak. will report back in a few minutes

Is it possible to have the NBT without navigation? I always though nowadays it was either NBT, which means you had to get technology package which thus forces Navigation upon you, or no technology package, meaning no NBT, but CIC, and basically little to no functionality from a technology perspective.

The dealer told me that on a 2016 I was looking at, as long as you have technology package, bluetooth streaming (and I was sure to clarify album art and all other music functionality, aside from being able to pair two phones at once) should work the same whether or not you order the Advanced Bluetooth option for $350.

That's a bummer man it's strange that it works with usb and not bt. My buddy has a 428i w/o nav, I'll see how his behaves sometime this week.

Turns out the lack of nav is the culprit. We were able to get album art through the usb interface but got nothing via Bluetooth, just like you had described

I no longer have the loaner car to compare. It may be lack of navigation but I am unsure. I currently have navigation on my f30 but no album art over BT. Not sure if a software update will fix the issue but bimmertech said it wouldn't

try updating the software. it'll take a few minutes for the whole process.

I don't think I will be able to update the software that easily because it was retrofitted into the car. I may need to contact bimmertech and ask again to see if they could do it for me.

I may be completely wrong here, but I believe that there is no longer any CIC. The non-navigation unit is now called a "HU_ENTRYNAV". That's what I'm expecting to get on my non-technology packaged 2016 340i.
