Automatically lock car after a period of time
The Mrs and I keep forgetting to lock our car which is not the best of ideas with it being a 40! Is there anything in the settings that can lock it automatically after a period of time?

not after you been in it as far as I know. Only if you unlock it without opening any doors it will automatically lock after a few minutes. But rubbish really with all the tech inside, it could at least notify you on your phone if your cars unlock for a number of minutes

Where do you park, postcode etc? Just kidding
If you download the BMW Connected app, you can remote lock the car from almost anywhere. How can you continuously forget to lock the car? Wouldn't you take extra care knowing it's something that is happening frequently?

I think it a yes.
See options Relock automatically. Different to lock when pulling away. EDIT: not trying to be a smartass. Spend so much time here forgot this is F30 post, suspect this might be an ID6 or Gseries option.

If you think about it, that way you can't leave your keys is and the car lock them in (though why it can't detect the key anywhere in the cabin/boot is another question) |

Once a door has been opened the relock function is disabled.

To be fair, my missus is always forgetting as well - usually because she's trying to get 2 kids under the age of 3 out of the car, stop them running out into the road, grabbing bags of shopping or whatever.

Thanks everyone it keeps happening because we put the pram in the boot when we come back from a walk as don't have a space in the house for it. I will check the idrive as I have id6 anyway!
I do normally check the mirrors are folded up before bed but sleep deprivation kicks in with a baby and I forget. Luckily I have an old guy accross the road who randomly checks now and rings me if I forget but he rang me at midnight last night which was annoying and helpful at the same time haha! |

A bit elaborate but if you fit a dashcam with cloud capabilities you will get a 'impact detected' notification on your phone when you slam the door shut. That could be the trigger you need to check you have locked the car.

Get yourself a mantra, something like "kids, keys, car locked" and say it every time you walk away from the car.
We do "passport, money, tickets" (Ab Fab style) every time we go away. Surprising how quickly it becomes a habit. |

You can lock your car with the fob, thus enabling the alarm. You can then open the boot separately rather than doing the whole car. When you close the boot it will be locked automatically.

got into habit of checking app (was audi last week) but connected drive now before I hit the hay. Infact pretty handily the new car has folding mirrors as a visual lock aid, plus the comfort thing is pretty good as force of habit.
The amount of times it was unlocked was perhaps 5%! too much again down to 2 kids and distractions. |

It is too easy to put your keys in the boot. EG. Put them on the pushchair / put them in a jacket pocket and then put these in the boot. Close the boot. Big problem. Been there. Done that.

My F33 chirps the alarm on closing boot when key left in jacket and placed in boot. Also boot won't lock, not sure if F30/32's do the same.

Link ConnectedDrive to Alexa? “Alexa, tell BMW to lock the doors” as you walk up the stairs to bed?

Just remember man it’s really not that hard to remember something you keep forgetting and you’re fully aware of, and if you genuinely can’t remember then see a doctor. |
