Recommended coding options???
I have to get my F30 software updated by the dealer in order to change coding on opening my trunk with 2 buttons rather than one.
That said, while the tech is in there making changes would be a good opportunity to have other parameters changed to my liking. Do you know if there is a menu around that would give me an overview of what can be personalized by "coding"???

Most (maybe all) dealers won't code the type of options you seem to be wanting. The two button trunk thing is to fix an issue with people opening their trunks by accident. There are many ways you can code the options you want yourself or have someone else do it for you for a fee.

To be honest the coding that I’ve done on my car with the help of forums like this is pretty simple so get yourself an obd enet connector and the software as it’s somthing you can do yourself.

I used mybimmerbrain to update and code my car. I contacted him through Instagram with an almost immediate response. All you would need is a cable and laptop

Well I think you should buy a Enet cable so that you could code with it. And then what I recommend you is to add M Performance logo, fog lamps turn on while cornering, Sport+ mode KW/NM options. I actually added a lot of coding to my car, didn't thought that it's so easy to do things you wanna do to your car

When I was trying to flash my car with bm3 it kept giving me error messages saying that I need to update my dme. Couldn’t find much help on how to do it and contacted him who went in and updated it as well as coded some things for me. However, I do agree with you on just coding it yourself...looks pretty easy

I have both Enet and Bimmercode setups. I find myself not using Enet pretty much at all, probably because I'm not doing any in depth coding or anything. Bimmercode is pretty easy to use with a lot of functionalities. I have yet to figure out if and when battery registration thing will come out, but I have a while to go before I need to replace the battery.

I vote to learn to code yourself. It is definitely daunting at first. But after you get in there and do it once or twice, it's pretty simple.
^ one of our fellow members made a video on it and walked it through step by step. I watched it twice before attempting to do it and even watched it in the car the first time through. The other options that you can try are the apps for smart phones (I believe they are.... Carly and bimmercode?). I haven't used them but you do need a specific BT dongle for the apps. From what I gather it is a lot easier with this route but whether the app accomplishes what you are after is another question. You can visit the DIY coding section for more info!

Bimmercode? Bimmerlink?
Thanks for the advice guys. I checked out Bimmercode and BimmerLink. Both see great but Bimmerlink has a price tag and Bimmercode doesn't. Can anyone explain the difference??? Also, what's in it for Bimmercode?? App is free, they don't even sell the OBD adapter!
BMW is doing a full software update on my car under warranty in order to do my 2-button option for the trunk lid release, so I imagine that the car would be prepared for self-coding after that.

Forget any method mentioned, the definite cheapest and easiest method of all is to get BimmerCode app and buy a recommeded OBD adapter from the app's FAQ, total cost me less than an oil change and I can code everything I in my NBT system any time I want. BimmerLink is updated now to be able to reset battery, so it's super useful.

Bimmercode is free to download and practice with in demo mode. You need to do an in-app purchase for around $30 to activate it and use it to connect to your vehicle.
I did some coding with Bimmercode first. Then I read all of the linked written guides on the coding forums, and watched the BMW esys coding YouTube videos at least 3 times until I reached the point where I was not learning nothing new. Then I felt ready to hook up and code with esys the first time. And before doing that, I connected to the car with the laptop and downloaded everything and browsed the options offline for a while (like a "dress rehearsal") before connecting back and coding the last few changes. This resulted in no mistakes and a perfect code session the first time. If you are willing to put the time into learning and are not in a rush, you can do it yourself. It is not hard at all with Bimmercode and their few, but popular, easy features to code. Then once you do a few with that, you are then ready to install the free esys downloads mentioned in the coding forums to your laptop to unlock the entire coding space. Then the car becomes a collection of different modules, only a few of which you will ever want to read or change. My best advice... research what you want you code and the new selections first using your sources. Do not just browse around in esys while connected to the car and start changing stuff that looks interesting.

I love esys. You can pull the configuration from the vehicle, make changes, and pushback. Some of the other products that do it just push changes. More risk.

esys is more risky imo coz you have the freedom to really mess it up, bimmercode has the choices lay out for you, and its safe because it takes a backup before you push the codes in.

I just customized my 340i w Bimmercode. Cheap and easy. Now I can fold my mirrors w my key FOB and they unfold on unlock. Also got rid of that pesky T&C message on start up. Worth every penny.

You can backup before coding with esys but yes it’s a manual step but I always take a backup of everything before I make any changes no matter how small.

For me, it was this video that put me "over the top" and ready to start coding with esys. I had to watch it like 6-7 times until I felt like I understood where everything was and the process of reading, backing up, changing, and saving.
