I had a perforated leather wheel in my E90 and I honestly had the same thoughts initially, however I do like the grip alcantra provided. The only thing is that, if your obsessed like me, you become super conscious about making sure your hands were clean before driving as to not matte down the alcantra.

I’m in Texas and when it got up in the triple digits the CF was a little hot but nothing crazy.

Purchased it from a forum member a while back but it was purchased from ECS originally.
