19 or 20" for F36 440IX Gran Coupe
Thinking about changing the wheels on my 2017 440IX Gran Coupe (Alpine White).
It currently has the 400M style wheels but they don't look particularly nice. Thinking about upgrading to 19" or maybe even 20". Some people say that 20" on the 440 looks too large, but others say 19" also looks small. I'm just curious what everyone here thinks? I'm currently considering 405M, 624M wheels in 20". But TireRack also has great wheels in 19" from O.Z., BBS, etc. What do y'all think? |

I don't really know. I have the bilstein coilovers. I put them all the way down on stock wheels then raised the rear a little when I got the 20's. Here is is with coilovers before 20's.

19s. 20s will be pretty harsh. Last time i was in seattle the roads were a little harsh. go with 19s and the 235/265 combo to upsize the sidewall a little from the stock width of 225/255

Another vote for 19's. I'll always prioritize usability over cosmetics, so that size wins automatically for me. I'd be afraid the ride in 20's would be pretty brittle considering the roads in my area. I'd probably go with 18's if it wasn't for my M Sport brakes and the lack of good looking aftermarket wheels which clear those brakes.
Cosmetically I think 19's hit the sweetspot. I have 19's right now and think they "just right" visually. However, like you see on many of these threads, taste is a very personal thing. Go with what you like. |

I like the aesthetic of 20" and have not found the ride quality to be all that harsh. However I am running 265/30/20 which is a relatively tall tire with decent sidewall height. I highly recommend going with a square setup (same wheel/tire sizes front and rear) since you have x-drive. The other thing to consider is wheel weight and strength. It's always best to get the lightest and strongest wheel you can afford - especially impactful when you go to a larger 20" wheel.

Hi there A quick question to Slicer: How is the steering with 265 in the front? Does follow lines in the road when driving? don't know the correct english word for it :-)

We would recommend fitting 19" wheels in this instance, as it will offer an aesthetic upgrade over stock, while maintaining some ride comfort! We would recommend the following square fitment for your xDrive 440: Front & Rear: 19x8.5" ET35 with 235/40-19 tires
I hope this was helpful information! - Max

The term you are referring to is "tramlining". Again I have not found it to be an issue whatsoever.

Ahh this is so difficult!
I do like the aesthetics of 20" (although I definitely will not be lowering the car on 20's since they'll look too large. The wheel gap helps the visual of the car, actually. 19's on the other hand are more practical.. I guess it comes down to my preference. I'm currently debating between OZ Leggera HLT Race gray's in 19" (20" not available) vs. the 405M wheel in 20". They cost roughly the same tires included (roughly 3.5k). |

If the Enkei bolts are the slimmer "tuner" style bolts, then feel free to reach out to us! We have a number of OEM bolt options for use with or without spacers. - Max

When you talking about "tuner" style bolts are you referring to the shape of the head?
I never thought about the bolts themselves until I bought a set of OZ wheels for my GTI a few years ago. The heads on my OEM bolts were a slightly different shape than what would fit the OZ wheels. One was more of a cone shape while the other was a more rounded ball shape. I don't remember which was which, but fortunatly Tire Rack included the bolts with the purchase of the wheels. I just had to pay attention to which set was being used when swapping my winter/summer wheels. |

Generally speaking, the tuner style bolts are a bit "slimmer" and offer much better clearance for the narrower bolt holes on some aftermarket wheels. Our wheels use the OEM lug size and offer compatibility with all OEM wheel hardware. So tuner bolts will not be required for use with OEM wheels! I hope this clears up any confusion from my previous post! - Max
