How to code iDrive to turn off when engine off and drivers door opened.

I did some searching on this topic but found nothing conclusive. My iDrive stays on with the engine off and the screen is still active till I lock the car. Is there a coding option to have the screen turn off when the engine is off and the door is opened to exit the vehicle?

A non coding mechanism is to hit the start/stop button again and things turn off.

Yep. I always have my radio on, which stays on until I lock the car. I like that, as hearing the radio reminds me to lock it. On those occasions when I want the radio and the rest of the accessories to turn off without locking the car, like when I'm working on it, hitting the start/stop button again without my foot on the brake shuts it down. So will just waiting for ten minutes or so.

I admit I like the short time the car stays on. If I stop to let my kids out some where and they run to get something and will return in a few
Mins, I can turn the car off and still listen to the radio or finish a phone conversation. Yes I know I can hit the button and go to ACC, but for the most part I find the 10 mins or so the accessories work, a net positive. If it really bugs me for some reason, I hit the button or obviously if leaving, I lock the car.

True dat. With all my previous cars when the engine was turned off the radio was turned off, so it I wanted to sit there and listen for a bit I had to turn the ignition back on to ACC. I like this better.
