328d 2017 or 2018

If you were looking for a model year 2017 or 2018 328d is there anything you'd definitely want to see or not want to see with the car? (package/options wise, wear & tear, mileage, mechanical, etc.)

M sport and RWD for me. However, both of those are preference. M sport because I prefer the aesthetics, seats, etc. and RWD because I dont want to deal with xdrive concerns. My 4x4 truck gets the nod in poor weather either way...

RWD and heads up display and know it's at it's v best on open interstate--steer clear of urban, stop 'n go and short trips

Garage List
The 328d has had it's fair share of gremlins, but fortunately most are covered by either recall or extended warranty. The 8HP ZF transmission is also largely bulletproof.

Find a car with these qualities:
  • Under 60K: this will give you an opportunity to change out the diff, tranny, and xDrive transfer case fluids. Above 60-100K its not recommended to touch those fluids at all.
  • Average miles driven of 10-15K/year: This value implies car was driven on lengthy distances that are healthy to the engine over the long-term. Seeing a car that does 5K/year implies short city driving, which isnt a good thing for diesels.
  • M-Sport: Really desirable option
  • Navigation: Really desirable option. You might not need nav, but the NBTevo headunit that comes with it is a really beefy unit and the UI is still really usable. The built-in 4G modem wont run into sunset issues like the 3G ones are going through now. I recommend getting it with the car instead of retrofitting it in.
  • SensaTec interior: I prefer SensaTec over leather for longevity reasons. Leather can last a while if taken care of properly, but in a used car you never know. Personal preference.
  • Maintenance records: There are not a lot of maintenance items prior to 60K. Check for oil changes and brake fluid changes. If there is any sign that the last oil change was done by a JiffyLube or non-BMW specialized shop, get the oil changed and make sure to use LL-04 spec oil.

If you're eyeing a specific car, take the VIN to a BMW dealer and have them check the warranty status. Some of the extended warranty items for the injectors and HPFP are VIN-specific.

Seconding the HUD and NAV.

The NAV actually sucks, and I would never navigate with it, but it's extremely nice having a constant map up on the dash to see roads and streets that are coming up.

Hi, I'm new to this site and my first 328D. I came over from a glorified VW (Audi). My car is a 2017, with 42K miles. Why so critical to change out the oils as you specified. I use LL12 oil (Motul) My manual indicates I can use either or am I wrong. Thanks. I simply love this car, especiaslly with the MODS I made, it is fun to drive and a rocket.

I had the system fully upgraded including apple car play and get all the navigation updates and it works really well. Before the upgrades it did go crazy sometimes, made me crazy. So yes NAV was a bit of a challenge
