N20/26 Timing Chain shop
Cross posted from the timing chain thread:
Has anyone in the Philly area has success in getting a dealer to do the official test? If so, which dealership? I've taken mine to the dealer a couple of times and all they'll do is listen for a noise. I'm at 94k and would like to have the test done before I hit 100k. Also, any Indy's that have done the swap preemptively at a good price? Thanks!!!! |

Hey Steel, I have a 2014 228i with an N20 engine at 68k miles. I took my car in for an oil change and mentioned to the SA my concerns about the timing chain. I explained how I opened the oil filler cap and noticed slack in the chan as I was able to move it slightly up and down and side to side. He told me that wasn't an accurate way to see if the timing chain was due for replacement. Surprisingly, he stated that the dealer will perform an "official test" one time as a courtesy. I have an appointment on Monday.
-Update: The dealer performed a stress test on the timing chain and visually inspected the guides, both passed. Last edited by lateapex'er; 01-24-2022 at 01:27 PM.. |
