Do you have an idea of how much torque you were putting down? I am in the process of 8HP45 swapping my turbo E46 and had the same justification that it's overbuilt and will be fine. The main reason I'm using a 8HP45 is because it's PNP and much more accessible than a M57 8HP70. I've never dyno'd my car but it puts out an estimated 430-460ft/lbs. I never launch and I believe this will help prolong the life of the transmission vs you. Thanks.

I never dynoed my car either but ots+ cars dyno close to 500wtq and my custom map was quite a bit quicker so north of 550 ft/lbs at the crank would be my guess. Cool stuff M54? I would say you're fine if you don't go past 460lb ft but if you want the headroom for future power definitely consider a HP70.

You should be able to use XHP custom settings to change that behavior

It felt very responsive, I would contact RBT and get their input.

Spoke to a few people with a hp70 and they all said the same thing feels really bad in D comfort to sport plus most people said they just resorted to using Manual.

It’s responsive in S but all that’s good for it basically track gear changes hang out too long

Either super sluggish D mode or harsh S.
miss the daily spirited mode from the hp50 D sport / plus

Seriously considering putting the hp50 back

Again, contact RBT the difference you might be feeling sounds like tcu mapping. Your map is different from what I was running. Not sure why you did all the work of pulling out the hp50 if it wasn't needed... Cheers

Was def needed running well
Over what the hp50 is recommended for

I’ll give them a shout see if anything can be done.. it’s not just me though that has the issue seems like everyone has. Just feels like the shift points haven’t been changed from the diesel ones. Under whelming is an understatement. Diesel shifts points in a 140i is hard to live with

Yeah contact them super responsive team at RBT. You should be running the b58 only hp70 swap map that was developed a while back. They are a few other b58 owners with that map on this forum ask them about their experience. It's also just possible your transmission is a dud, swap wasn't completed correctly, fill procedure not completed properly etc ...

If anyone would like to buy the Transmission from this thread, I purchased it off of OP back in February to put in my car. Life has kinda hit my whole family with a curve ball and I will no longer be building my car at least for the time being. I have put zero miles on it as I have just been accumulating parts for the build since the time of purchase. I will sell it for $2500 which is what I bought it for. It can be picked up in SW Ohio or shipped at the buyers expense.

Hey jq_f22 I came across your post and I am trying to acquire a 8hp70 for the same thing you did. Are you in the UK? I can’t seem to source one from a 330d.

Did you need a different transmission support bracket? Also did you try flashing Alpina transmission software?

Did you ever find a way to source one? It seems these transmissions are mostly off european model only cars- though you might be able to find one off an F10 diesel model stateside.
