Does the transfer case in XDrive get damaged by drifting in the snow?

Hello, so this is my first post on this forum fyi. We have a F31 320d XDrive (2013) at home, and last year the transfer case broke, and getting it replaced was not very cheap at all. This happened at around 160000km, and it seems to be pretty common on these cars.

Since we live in Sweden, and usually get a lot of snow, so its pretty much in our nature to drift in the winter. But after that incident of the transfer case breaking, we have been driving carefully to avoid it happening again, and its not as much fun to be honest. So, as the title speaks, does drifting in the snow with XDrive hurt the transfer case? And if so, would XDelete be a good way of avoiding damaging the transfer case?

We’re not the best when it comes to the mechanical parts, but driving is a big hobby of ours.

Im sorry if theres another thread about this, but i tried searching and didn’t find anything.

I don't think the snow caused your transfer case to break. I would change the fluid in it every 70000KM and keep it going. If you want, you could put an LSD in the rear of the car and take some pressure off the transfer case. The LSD will give the car more grip and will help the transfer case not struggle to give the car traction.

It could have been the guibo that caused it to fail. Especially since it's a diesel and inherently has more vibrations.
