If BMW are OK with it, I'd probably go with a 0w40 or 0w30 at least.

33 degree ambient temperatures in London on occasion, throw in a load of stop start traffic and you could be at the upper temperature operating window easily just pottering about.
Yip - that's what my BMW dealer (Enfield) uses, 0w20. Although you'll find some BMW dealers do differ. However you're right re operating window. I can only assume they decided 33c ambient temps in the UK are few and far between, and manufacturers MPG stats are so important of course these days. I change my oil every 8-10,000 miles so am not too fussed, but should probably change it to something thicker if I do a summer track day.

The recommended oil weight from BMW is 0W-20. They also recommend using an LL-14 FE+ approved fuel. However, LL14FE oils are designed with fuel economy in mind. LL01 approved oils will also work well on the B58.

Just a DA polisher and some Autoglym metal polish.
When I jack the car up to do the wheels and callipers, I'll get the dremmel out to polish out the brown rust round the edges.

So by an 'approved fuel' you're talking a 'premium' unleaded for non diesel models, say Shell VPower (99 RON) or BP Ultimate (98 RON) that has a rating of E5, or E10 at a max, to ensure not too much ethanol.

I did take a look at the link, however it doesn't state manufactures of fuel, just that they should be LL-14 FE+ fuels.

When Googling LL-14 FE+ all that surfaces is approved oils, not fuel suppliers.

Yes, I think that's just a typo - apologies. they must mean approved oil, not fuel.

As for fuel, the MPPSK manual states (I'm told, the buggers didn't give me one after installation) you should use 98 Ron or above.

Seems to give you more pops and bangs than standard fuel, so all worth it

440i - Exhaust query / concern

Hi all,

Recently procured a 2017 440i with the standard double split tail pipe exhaust.

I have a couple of questions / concerns which may be valid or not:

1. When turning the car on, the main air/noise comes from the right hand side tail pipe - as seen in the first pic below, it looks more worn/corrosive than the other side - second pic attached.

2. In fact, I can hardly feel anything coming out the left hand side tail pipe when turning the car on....

Is this normal?

Yes completely normal. The LHS is flapped and only used at certain times.
This wont matter though when you get you MPPSK fit though.

MPPSK is dealer fit only as it needs coding linked to Munich

"Hertford Car Specialists Is Proud To Present This Beautiful Alpine White BMW 340I Touring With Black Leather, This Vehicle Is Supplied With 2 BMW Remote Key Fobs, 12 Months MOT, BMW WARRANTY TILL FEB 2022, Very High Spec With Over 20K Worth Of Upgrades! The Most Important BMW MPerformance Power & Sound Kit MPPSK! Upgraded To 360 BHP, M Performance Exhaust And Much Much More!"

It's on a 68 plate in the ad and they list it as 2019 (68) reg. Curious. Do you think the owner chopped out the OPF? Or could it be a pre June '18 build that wasn't registered until 2019?

That said, there are no actual pictures of the MPPSK, so hard to tell what's fitted.
that has a MPE exhaust not an MPPSK.

Agreed it has an mpe. Seen that car about a month ago from a private seller at £32k on auto trader. Seems like this dealer has bought it and slapped on another 3k.

£32k blimey! What's the mileage?

Do you think the MPPSK would add resale value to my car in a private sale?

I *will not* be selling this car to a dealer, I'm sick of getting ripped off by them.

Its on 6k miles.

Mppsk will at least make it more desirable imo and I think more than likely add a bit to resale.

Private sale yes, dealer no - they don't care about mods. My dealer did not even know it had mppsk, I found out a week after buying it.
Seems like the desirability of mppsk has gone up now that ppf has ruined the fun on newer cars, so definitely go for it

He was only asking about private sale

I totally agree regards to the opf, I would have bought the estate in question last month if it was a pre opf car and I could stick an mppsk on it.
The Opf immediately ruled it out for me which is a shame as its a nice looking car.
