P0446
Hey guys,
I'm new to this forum. I currently own a 2016 340i Xdrive. I've been getting a P0446 code for the past few months. I kmow it is an Evap system error. I've checked and cleaned the gas cap throughly. I normally just clear the code with scan tool, but it has gotten to the point that I decided to make an appointment at the dealer to have it looked at, as the car is still under warrenty. My main question is, I have a stage 1 Bootmode installed since April 2020. Could this be causing the problem, and will the dealership realize that I have the software installed? Any comments would be welcome. Thank you. |

Very high chance that dealers will notice your tune as latest software detects any flash without them searching for it
Hope you don’t get flagged, good luck. |

The bootmod shouldn't cause this code. I had a similar problem that turned out to be caused by a mouse chewing some wires. The dealership will probably find the tune, but it's your car, not theirs, so none of their business unless it's a lease.

Based on the year of your car I would assume you are out of warranty so there shouldn't be any issue. In fact, I would make sure you mention it to them so that they don't software update as I recall reading something on this forum about new software versions making the car unable to tuned or accessed? Not sure if that is still a thing or if tuners found a work around yet but you can request they not remove it ahead of time.

My warrenty runs out Apr 2021, as it was extended being a CPO car.
I have seen people on Youtube leaving a note not to perform any software updates. I also agree that the BM3 isn't the cause. Thanks for the replies. |

Im having the same issue with my 2016 340 as well and like you tried fixing and replacing gas gap with no help. My car isn't tuned but i do plan on taking it to the dealer and have them look at it but don't want to pay that fee smh

Update: Dealer says gas tank evap valve needs to be replaced, which is covered under warrenty. Also says that I need a software update which will cost $330 to install. I am putting the software update on hold for now, to see if i get any CEL.

$330 to install a software update that BMW provides the dealer at no charge is a total rip off. I haven't come across anyone yet who said that updated software made the car any better, while many say it made it worse. Most of the time dealers do a software update while the car is in for other service, no charge, and they usually don't even tell you they did it. You find out when everything you coded isn't there anymore. I passed on two years of no charge maintenance so that the dealer couldn't update my software and erase all of my coding.

I agree, rather ridiculous. Exactly why I said not to install it, and was told I could still get CEL from not installing the software, doesn't make any sense to me.

My dealer has done it plenty of times free of charge, 330 is outrageous. I would of laughed if they ever said that to me.
