I noticed the motors in my mirrors are pretty loud when folding and unfolding. unfortunately I dont think the motor is serviceable and the whole thing has to be replaced. I wonder if some form of a lubricant would help quiet things down.

+1, spritz that hinge with WD40 or silicone lube.

I have my mirrors coded to fold/unfold on lock/unlock and I can definitely say they were not "designed" for this level of use. I even remember the shop warning me that constant use may result in failure. Its been about two years and the thing creaks and groans something fierce...but hey, still goin'.

You can buy the folding mirror gear/screw as a repair kit.
I presume this is a part that wears and fails?

You could have just unplugged the 2 pin connector to the motor instead of cutting the wire.
