Anyone in MA running with no front plates?
I'm trying to decide whether I want to risk going with no front plates, or go with a tow-hook mount up front. I park in parts of the city fairly often (Allston, Cambridge, Chinatown, mainly) and am not sure if I'd be more susceptible to getting ticketed than someone who lives outside the city in, say, in Newton or North Attleborough or something.
Do cops pull you over for no front plates? Or is it mostly a while-you're-parked kinda thing?

Had the car 9 months and haven't been pulled over once
The only time I've had friends pulled over for it is when they did something else before it. Majority of cops won't care, only a select due do.

The plate frame and bracket behind the bumper is custom made for your car. It's pretty impressive what they can do.

Definitely going to check that out - thanks. Would be nice to have it easily removable for AutoX or car shows. For now it looks like tow hitch would be the best bet till I get that done.

No tickets yet? With how anal CPD has gotten with ticketing people who text and drive recently, I'm surprised.

Maybe, having a Veterans License plate helps me
I cant imagine drilling holes in my bumper...its a stupid law to begin with. If you have the green and white old license plate than your exempt from the law. |

Its a $35.00 fine for failure to attach front plate. On the flip side of things most local police departments dont really enforce it. However, the State Police enforce it the most. When they get you once you become a moving target.

I don't have front plates, but I also have the older green plates, which doesn't require having them. They are worth their weight in gold.
Having said that, I've never had any cop blink an eye when looking at my bare front end as I passed by. |

What do you mean by that? Do they start pulling you over more?

It goes into their data base, and they take subsequent offenses personally. Staties also like to use simple offenses as a good reason to pull you over in hope of finding you doing something more serious. High profile busts result in promotions.

Any new updates to this thread? I'd love to NOT put a front plate on my soon to arrive 340i. However, I don't want to be hassled by Johnny Law over a silly plate...

I've been driving with decommissioned German province plates upfront for several years over the last 12 years, on three different cars. Never pulled over for it. Kept the extra plate in the car just in case though.
There is a fine for not having the plate if you have the white and red plates, but as mentioned above most police won't pull you over just for that. They'll likely add it to citations for other offenses more readily ticketed. Just remember to place the state issues plate back on the front end for inspections. They are very strict about it now. How the new car rolls around now:

FIY - Mass General Law
I ran without a front plate for a year or so. This was a while ago.
When I went for the annual inspection the station wouldn't even start the inspection without the front plate. Just so you know: MA General Law Part I Title XIV Chapter 90 Section 6. Every motor vehicle or trailer registered under this chapter when operated in or on any way in this commonwealth shall have its register number displayed conspicuously thereon by the number plates furnished by the registrar in accordance with section two or five or by temporary number plates authorized by the registrar as hereinafter provided, one number plate to be attached at the front and one at the rear of said motor vehicle. I don't think that the police care unless you do something to tick them off. However, in the last annual inspection the guy took photos of my car, front and back ? |

My place wont even let me have the front on the side of front bumper via the tow hook, all shops are videotaped so they aren't messing around anymore.

That’s strange. I didn’t know Mass was that anal about front plate mounting. You’d figure front bumper mounted is front bumper mounted
