Coding??

Hi Guys - Please pardon if my question sounds stupid (BMW newbie) - What is coding? Is it something I could easily do, and would it affect warranty?

Coding is changing parameter in your car’s ecu’s. You can add options for example or change start up emblems on your combi, enable/disable things like start/stop, dvd while moving, disclaimers,... there are a lot of,things you can change.
It’s not that hard, you just have to follow the right procedure (wich you can learn easily).
I don’t know for sure about the warranty, but I bet it will be void if all goes wrong.
But if you just stick to the tested coding and follow procedure you’ll be fine. I don’t know anything about computers but I can code my car.

There's tons of threads on here so I have no idea where to start. Worked out that I need a lead to connect to my laptop and some software.

Any pointers to a few threads from where I can look to start obtaining these?

Note that I am based in the UK and drive a F30 so would need to be ideally be able to source the lead from the UK

Thanks in advance

OP - sorry, didnt mean to hijack your thread but I assumed you would have these same questions too!!

Garage List
So many different ways to do it.
I bought the bimmercode app for my phone and a bluetooth obd2 adapter.
I did everything from my phone. No cables. No computer.
Just turn airplane mode on so you’re not receiving texts or calls while you’re trying to code.
