Exhaust Question! Thank you

Calling all exhaust experts! So I have been open minded for a while to a muffler or resonator delete, I need you guys to educate me on all the ways to improve sound without breaking the bank and spending $1k+ on an exhaust system, just looking to get a bit better sound out of my baby, it's an n26 328i xDrive. Also, I do not want severe drone, minor drone is okay but severe drone is not, thank you all in advanced! Currently sitting at 117,908 miles with her and she's been flawless btw. Beats my 04 530i money pit, which was a money pit thanks to its previous owner...

The options that come to mind at your budget are the Remus axle-back at about $500-600, finding a used MPE at about $600-700, or going for the muffler delete at $100-200 depending on where you go.

I'd say it really comes down to what you want out of your exhaust. If you want a refined, sporty sound that isn't too loud I personally would go for the Remus, but many on this forum are running MPE and it sounds great as well.

I told myself I would get muffler delete done at a quality exhaust shop, see how I liked it, and go from there considering it isn't anywhere near the same investment. It's definitely loud, but drone is minimal unless I'm lugging the engine in comfort mode and personally I love the sound.

Many will say don't do muffler delete unless you don't care about losing the exhaust tone. I'm not sure if it's the shop that did a great job or if it always sounds the way it does on my car, but it definitely still sounds like a BMW to me. Just louder and deeper with nice pops and burbles. Really just depends on what effect you're looking for.

EDIT: Just realized you have the N20/N26 engine. YMMV.

If you wanted to stay with BMW products, then MPE is great. I have it on my car and I love the way it sounds! subtle when I need it to be and throaty when I want it to be. I would like it to be a tad louder but I think its a good compromise.

I am always curious about the remus or AA axel back as they are relatively the same price as the a used MPE. I have heard some exhaust clips and it sounds pretty awesome. I don't think you can go wrong with any of those three tho.

Side note, we have an exhaust thread in this section. find a clip and listen with headphones as I think it changes the notes compared to laptop speakers.

I strongly recommend the MPE from BMW, you should be able pick one up used for well under $1k.

But there are a ton of threads on this topic, a good one is stickied at the top.

Hi, I have the Axel Back Remus configuration and the rear performance, the sound is brutal! very good configuration.

I've done a muffler delete on my 428i around 6months ago.

Overall happy, but as others said its a bit of mixed bag in terms of drone and "unclean" noise.

Mine only drones around 1.9k-2.1k and 1.5k in eco pro but I never drive in that range.

Easy solution? D Sport. it never touches those ranges and during acceleration it forces more flow through and doesn't cause enough droning. Got it fabbed to twin outlet at same time so looks better and barbles nicely afterwards. But you're still probably better getting a full system.

Muffler and resonator deletes are ricer mods. Just install a catless down pipe, see how you like that and go from there....
