Nitrous on the N55
Anyone have experience with using nitrous on the N55?
I have a kit sitting from a previous car and it was used in combination with a Eaton supercharger on a 4 banger. I did 100 shot with 16 psi. |

Poor idea the N55 runs very lean already. Fueling would be a serious problem. Its not like you can add fuel on demand with the Direct injection and what are you gonna setup a second fuel system for port. It's not gonna happen.
Sell the N02 and get a meth kit. |

By all means, feel free to add a nitrous kit to your 3-liter turbo inline-6 with direct injection and see how long your pistons and head gasket last. After all, these cars are a perfect choice for drag racing and generally beating the hell out of.

Well I got the idea when I saw the "fuel-it" folks on n54 tech selling TBI systems for the N55, I figured there was extra fuel on the Low pressure fueling side if they were using it for extra fueling for big turbos. It would be a wet shot so no extra fueling by the injectors.

NOS isn't really popular on these cars, but if yo uno do it or find someone who did post some pictures.
Stick with a good tune and Meth injection if you need to spray something Mike |

if you can tune the system to cut off at say 14psi boost you could use it to get the turbos spooled up faster and it should be safe enough. i would not use it under full boost though unless you want a rod through the block!

Non sense. An engine doesn't appear on a Best Engine's list unless it can handle 200-300 shot of nitrous all day long.

Hope he's got forged rods and pistons lol. Also from the looks of it that's an E92 so I'd guess it's an N54 Twin Turbo not an N55 but impressive nonetheless.

If you really want to do this then with port injection and a proper controller it is doable but what are you going to use for the controller? JB4 doesn't support NOS anymore I dont think. I'd say that's the big hurdle. You'll need something that can read the BMW can bus probably as its difficult to get RPM off of the coils or anything.
Contact Terry@BMS and see if he can help you. |

If it's free and you can't get jack from selling it, maybe cool the IAT with it, I've seen some use it to hose down the IC, but I can't imagine any scenario where it would be a good idea to dump it into the engine in any appreciable amount.

i have a wet kit im going to install on my M2. important to note i used to tune sport compacts for a living and have a physics major....
As the previous user said fueling is a problem so I bought a 10 gallon fuel cell, fuelab 50-150psi boost referenced bypass pressure regulator, MSD 43GPH at 45psi hpfp inline, an inline filter, fuel pressure safety switch so the n20 solenoids not grounded untilbthe wet shot shark nozzle sees >30psi of fuel...I also have bootmod3 /jb4 stack and will be starting with a 35 wetshot and a custom tune with less than stock boost, prob start at 10-12 psi, also slightly retarded ign timing... the jb4 does still have 4 great n20 safeguards built in...TPS, MIN ADVANCE, AFR, and Min Meth flow. I have a BMS meth kit and typically use CM7 nozzle with an additive of 20 scaling 50...with n20 im moving to CM12, additive of 00, scaling of 70. These are initial settings and will be raised with boost according to careful monitering. there are plenty of ppl who ran nitrous on 335 n55s with success (over 500whp)... M2 has forged pistons rods and crank.... Bottom line the only way to run nitrous on n55 safely is a dme tune for it, a complete exogenous fuel system, multiple failsafes physical and electronic would be best... Goal is to slowly increase boost, decrease retard, i only will be using it inverse boost so as boost falls off at 5500RPMs use just enough nitrous to create a linear hp curve. on a high compression high boost engine, a 35 wetshot should yield 50+ whp between 5000-7000 RPMS. Def wouldnt recomend nitrous on this platform unless A. you really understand nitfous and respect the danger. B. you spend the $$$ to do it right and have multiple sasfeguards.... |
