Question Remove EDC from VCM/MSM

Hi there,

a friend of me is driving an 2017 F33 440i and removed the EDC to install a KW static.
Now we want to correctly code the car because the KW EDC delete kit is expensive and just tell the car everything is fine.

I´m already doing some FDL coding and flashed my own car to the latest i-Stufe.

Can someone have a quick look into what i´m planing to do?

Use E-Sys 3.33.4
Activate the following options
Update VCM after TAL execution
Update MSM after TAL execution
Connect to the car using the gateway URL and port

Open comfort mode and TAL calculation
Load the FA and save
Edit the FA and remove 2VF from FA
Load the ECUs and save as SVT_IST

Change the calculation strategy to full flash
Choose the Bau i-Stufe or read it
Ziel i-Stufe is the current psdzdata on my device
Calculate and save as SVT_SOLL

Edit the SVT_SOLL
Remove EDC with rightclick
Override the SVT_SOLL
Back to TAL calculation

Load the new SVT_SOLL without the EDC
Check "ECUs from SVTsoll" <- is this correct?
Start the TAL calculation and save as TAL_NEU

Open expert mode and TAL-Execution
Load TAL_NEU, SVT_SOLL, FA and read the VIN
Remove the top left tick
Set the tick for hwDeinstall <- is this correct?
Check Software availability
Start TAL execution

Open expert mode and coding
Code the DSC, KOMBI, ICM, and HU_NBT with the new FA that has no 2VF inside

Shutdown the car, remove the plugs from the EDC unit in the back.
Wait a couple of minutes.
Start the ignition, start ISTA+, check the error memory and may delete it.

Thanks for your help.

kind regards
Michael

Only this is required:

Open expert mode and coding
Code the DSC, KOMBI, ICM, and HU_NBT with the new FA that has no 2VF inside

ISTA will report errors but they can be ignored, the car will not report any errors.

It´s like a retrofit without proper coding and then missing the new ECU while flashing to a new i-Stufe.
Thanks for the try but i would like to go all the way and not just the bare minimum.

Well, when you say "go all the way" the only way to "go all the way" is to get BMW to modify the FA on their servers, otherwise if the car goes to a dealer it will cause issues when they try to update it.

The car is already on the latest i-Stufe and i don´t think there will be many more updates for the F-series.
There´s always a risk when driving a modified car to a dealer, even with the FDL coding solution.
I´m not sure if the FDL coding would be enough, because the car would still "think" that the EDC should be a part of the car. Therefore it´s throwing a bunch of errors, even that they´re only visible with ISTA.
When removing the EDC from the VCM/MSM this wont be a problem anymore.

So would it be working like i described, regardless if it´s needed or not?
It´s still good to know for other retrofits where one ECU is replaced by another.

May I ask what KW coilovers were purchased? At what price point?

KW EDC Delete kit isn't particularly expensive and remains a better approach to negate EDC functionality.

I don´t know :-)
The KW EDC Delete Kit costs 300€ here in Germany, so that´s expensive compared to just code it.

Sure, modify VCM and you will be fine, the errors will only show in ISTA if the VDC ECU is still connected but not connected to the adaptive dampers.

And then what?
Only do the FA change and code the ECUs?

Yes, code the ECU's - tbh, once you have coded the first ECU you can uncheck the Update VCM checkbox as it will be done.

Code the rest of the modules and disconnect the VDC module, job done!

Seems like it worked.
The VDC is not listed in ISTA anymore and there are no errors.

Thanks!
